Dodgers only get Manny for 2 months (although they will get compensation picks when he rejects arbitration) , Red Sox get Bay for 1.3 years at whatever is owed to him this year (+/- $2 million?) plus $7.5 million for '09...which is about HALF of what they would have had to pay if they would of exercised Manny '09 option. That leaves them with money to go out and get a starter and relief help over the offseason...they may still work something out through the waiver wire to acquire bullpen help for the stretch run...

we get manny for 2 months FOR FREE, and we get 2 picks to replace the 2 prospects we lost. morris had TJ surgery and will be a question mark for the rest of his career and laroche was given hella chances to prove his worth in the bigs but he never did. laroche had no place on our team unless it would be at 2B. we gave up NOTHING.
and with the red sox, ok they have money but that doesnt necessarily mean they get anyone, or the person/people that they want. as of right now, there's no way you can say they're the winners in this trade, aside from getting rid of a potential clubhouse problem.

i think they all got what they wanted.
Pitt got 4 prospects..............jason bay is around 32
Boston dumped Manny and 2 good prospects. but in return got jason bay(comparable numbers to manny) and got Bay's $7 million 2009 option (highway robbery)
LA: got the impact bat they needed. and for free as Boston is picking up the rest of the 08 salary. LA Loses 2 prospects but even if they dont sign Manny after the season (i hope they dont) they will recieve 2 first round compensation picks from whoever signs him

on paper it looks like boston did get the lighter part of the deal.....boston could get really hot with better team chimistry and shit and they will look like genusies
i never doubt NY/boston scouts and GMs.....theres reason there constant contenders (other then the fact that baseball doesnt have a real sal cap)

i think it was a good deal for both teams, i think Boston made a smart move to get rid of Manny now and get something for him. Jason Bay is an all star, he aint no slouch...one i will say is the the pitching in the AL seems to be tougher so there might be that adjustment period.
