Strip bomb victim's family says he was good person, had no enemies
A family is being torn apart after their main provider was murdered in a bomb blast. 24-year-old Willebaldo Durantes-Antonio was killed when a bomb sitting on his car detonated. Authorities say it was homicide. News 3's Luis Cruz spoke exclusively to the victim's family.
Pictures of Willebaldo Durantes-Antonio have been placed next to a small shrine inside his home. Police say Willebaldo was killed early Monday morning when he tried to remove a device from the top of his car and it exploded.
"Everything is falling apart for our family," says Willebaldo's aunt. We're not showing you her face to protect her identity. She says her nephew wasn't involved in drugs or gangs. He came to Las Vegas three years ago in search of a better life.
"I really don't know why anyone would want to hurt him." Willebaldo's aunt tells us her nephew had two jobs, one of which was working at Nathan's Famous Hot Dogs inside the Luxor. She says he didn't have any time to get into trouble. He would send money to his son's mom in Puebla, Mexico.
"He was a good person," she says. The family is saddened by the fact that now his 1-year-old son will grow up without a father. The family is now working with the Mexican consulate to make arrangements to bury the victim in Mexico.
But they say they don't have very much money, and they're worried about whether they'll be able to afford to take him back home.
