Just my view here. As an upstart company no one knows who the fuck we are (www.5150xo.com) We have no track record and no fan base. All consumers know about us when looking at our cd on the shelf is wether or not the disc looks like it is professional or not. Rob from Evilwayz did our artwork and logos and could have charged us twice as much and we would have paid. The graphics was our single most important investment on this project next to getting the disc masterd. Why? Because we have sold countless number of cd's based solely on the packaging and artwork. On top of that Rob helped us create a company image and look. Like someone said before you get what you pay for. Just dont under estimate how important the graphics and artwork are. Or it will come back to haunt you.
Cuzz this being a graphic designer isn't a hustle anymore then running a record company is...but I can say it depends on the person running it....Go to a large firm and talk that $50 shit and they will show you the door...Large companies charge in the thosands of dollars for a logo not $150-$300....ok so I can send clients to you for studio time and they can offer you $5 per hour right?
THe reason I took an issue with what he is offering is because as a designer and business owner I deal with cats like him all the time...they want hot shit but don't want to pay for it ...You get tired of that shit because for some reason people do not understand that your artwork is is just as important as you lyrics, production, and every other aspect of any business...your image is very important no matter what kind of business you are in.
Opinions don't scare me homie, lol. As for me selling my CD for 5 cents, if it actually cost me 5 cent to manufacture a cd yes I would sell it to you for 5 cents. As long as I'm breaking even why wouldn't I. But the truth of the matter is it does not cost 5 cent to manufacture a cd. Cost can go up to $2 per cd depending on who your dealing with on your project.
How in the hell is artwork just as important as lyrics and production on an album? Your tryin to tell me Snoop would get a decrease in sells if he slapped a plain block cover on his album that read Snoop Dog? Come on man. Don't get mad because I don't value your business as much as you do pimp. Image is important but a logo don't make or beat a companioes image. Look at the Def Jam logo, basic, yet they are one of the biggest rap labels in America.
artwork is just as important because its your image...its what the people see when they buy an album....did I say that no.,..his artwork is a classic piece of hip hop...so is def jam...theres is clean and corporate but its what you think of when you see them doing business...Not getting made son....I'm just not feeling your non professionalism...dude if you don't understand basic business then you will foreve be stuck in the rap game as a small fish in a big pond. as I said before your logo is just like a pic of you a person will know your name but the have no idea what you look like until they see a picture...when I say deathrow youl know it because of the eletric chair & its music....why you think Star Trek has a logo because it gives their company an image...I really hope you take what I'm saying to you as education instead of some cat saying some shit to you while you trying to give a novice $50 for a logo..and what I'm saying ain't all for you its for the new kids in the game...
