Newest racing sausage sent to the bench

Last week, the Milwaukee Brewers introduced a new member of their famed sausage race with much fanfare.

Now comes word that Chorizo is heading back into the freezer ... at least for a little bit.
According to a report in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the new mascot did not go through Major League Baseball's approval process with regard to new characters and promotions.

MLB spokesperson Susan Goodenow told the newspaper baseball wants to be sure that fans tie into new characters or promotions from a marketing and licensing standpoint. She also said the process would take a number of months, which presumably means that Chorizo could be called up in time for Opening Day 2007.

Just as quickly as the Chorizo arrived on the sausage racing scene, he will be departing.

MLB did approve a one-time appearance for Chorizo, who raced against the Hot Dog, Bratwurst and Italian and Polish sausages as part of the Brewers' special Cerveceros Day celebration on July 29. In his lone race of the 2006 season, Chorizo finished a disappointing third.

The Brewers tried to put a humorous spin on the promotion demotion, saying they were sending the Chorizo down to the minors for more "seasoning."

that shit is hilarious....at least they thought about us.....LMAO....I imagine the "hot link" mascot is on it's way also....ha ha ha
