IMO "snitchin" isn't simply telling on someone. My thinkin' is that the person who decides to give up information has somethin' to gain by doing so (i.e. a prisoner who chooses to "debrief"). An incentive in this case might be having time shaved off the individuals sentence, Protective Custody, or an earlier release, etc. Or "the boys" might say, "give us some names, and we'll cut you a soft deal". The person has an incentive to talk. THATS SNITCHIN'.
Usually with homicides, there's some type of reward offered. A lot of times ppl don't even do it for the money. They do it because its the right thing to.
