Mac Dre was a lyricist... As far as comparing Mac Dre to Jay-Z... there's no comparison. Mac Dre spits would blow Jay-Z away. Jay-Z is weak... his delivery is weak, his voice sounds gayish.... and half of his lyrics were stolen. Mac Dre was waaaay too original to be compared to Jay-Z. Jay-Z is all hype... he's only where he is because he's from New York.

How could I be considered dumb? Just because I said that Jay-Z is not on Mac Dre's level when it comes to music? LOL..... Just listen to the music man. And how is Jay-Z clever? Just listen to Cam's diss.... Jay-Z has stolen from Big L, Pac, Biggie and those rappers have passed away. He's also stolen from Slick rick, Snoop dogg, Nas....
Yep Jay-Z is clever just like Master P. All biters. And since you want to consider biting clever... that qualifies you as dumb. How many people have Mac Dre bitten off of? All original.

Come on now.... let's not use the reference excuse. Jay is not creative enough to come up with his own. Keep it real.... "I wish I never met her at all"... that is gayish... I know you remember that line. He bit so much off of Big it was obvious. Those weren't references... those were bites. And yes he'd be considered trash if he was from the bay. He's weak. You can call me dumb or ridiculous all you want. My opinions are based on facts man.

I
Basically my list is ( really in no order) :

-Yukmouth ( cant argue comes sick on some rewind shit 8 outta 10.. i do admit sometimes he can be lazy but when he get busy he rips it! from wordplay to metaphores, multisyllables and punchlines he got it locked... the only thing i feel yuk can do better is switch up his subject matter a lil more he raps too much about being a gangsta and flossin.... but i heard he is going back to the storytelling and deep life issues on his next album just hope thats true and not hype)
-Ya boy ( is a real punchline rapper he is young and he is still developing he is like a bay area version of jadakiss 90% punchlines but still dope tho i can see him becoming a great lyricist in the future but right now he is still an ok lyricist)
-San quinn ( has all the makings of a great lyricist.. but he can rap offbeat sometimes and his voice tends to get a lil boring after awhile and also he can get lazy sometimes i done heard him spit some wack verses here and there)
-The jacka ( is also developing far from a great lyricist right now he needs to expand his vocab and work on being consistent but nonetheless he can spit out some impressing 8 bars here and there.. he has too many AVERAGE verses tho but he is gettin better with every album)
-Locksmith ( true lyricist! this nigga crazy with it you cant deny that from the shit i heard he sounds like a real battlerapper tho )

im sure its more..

Damn....I thought i was reading my post for a second. Great minds think alike..haha.

Copied and pasted from my first post in this thread..

Ya Boy is a punchline rapper... he's still developing in my opinion.

Yukmouth is a beast...he's got wordplay, multisyllables, metaphonres, punchlines...basically all the qualities of a true lyricist. He does need to switch up his subject matter and rap about something else besides being a thug and dissing G-Unit. If he did...its a wrap.

The Jacka-in my opinion he's also still developing. His lyrics get better with every album.

San Quinn- Quinn's been doing his thing for many moons and though is flow changed, his lyrics got better and deeper."

I just don't see how Zion from Zion I is considered a great lyricist....that foo is a coo rapper and has nice concepts, but the dood is not all that dope....
Saying mac dre isn't a lyricist is just as ignorant as saying jay-z isn't original and is a biter....Mac Dre dumbed down his lyrics, but still had tight wordplay and coo punchlines...he also had style that gelled his lyrics alltogether
saying all of hiero is corny, cuz tajai and phesto aren't that tight...

from the bay, I'd have to go with:
Yukmouth
Casual
Ya Boy
Del
Bailey
Locksmith
Clyde Carson
Murs (even tho he stays in LA now, he started rappin up here)
Pep Love
Gift of Gab from blackalicious (well he's from davis, but close enough)

there's plenty more...but those are either on top of their game or are dope now and only getting better

casual is fuckin raw with lyrics....that foo has the best punchlines in the bay HANDS DOWN...."one punch will make a sado masochist hate pain" I have all of zion i's albums....I don't think zion is all that dope...I like the feel of their albums and I think he's coo....but shit, everyone that featured on deep water slang ate him...I was just listing who's top notch or who will be....I just don't see it with zion tho

haha yeah damn we said damn near the same shit..

but i cant believe how some people can mention rappers like mac dre and mesy marv as lyricists tho thats crazy... i love their music but they are not lyricists period.

but at the same time i understand it the bay doesnt really know what lyrics are since we dont have that much lyricists out here.. so cant blaim them really

which is why they popular

the average rap fan (yes even some of you) wouldn't be able to understand every display of lyricism that they come across... my mixtape i just rapped up is staircases above the bay norm (in my opinion - from flows to beats & hooks and how it was put together).. but i did hold back from my (lyrical) potential to be able to hook more people until part 2 of the series drops

Oh yeah i know that but most of the known rappers in the bay aint really dumbig they shit down they just dont have that much talent to begin with.

You can hear when a rapper is dumbing his shit down ( well most of the time you can).

But i feel like you can definetily still make hot music without having to dumb your lyrics down TOO MUCH i can understand how some talented lyricists dumb they shit down just a little cuz like you said you want people to understand what you saying and some fans are just stupid. But at the same time i feel like if you just put some effort into it you can please both ( the average rap fan and the nigga that like to sit down and listen to the lyrics).

Imma take your music for example from the shit i heard it's hot it bangs you can def nod your head too it so it' s far from boring ( like alot of people expect lyrical music to be) but you got slick punchlines and metaphors here and there that keep it excited aswell ya feel me..

I do think some "lyricists" take the shit a little too serious tho and forget about all the other aspects that make a good song and that's how you get the stereotypes about lyrical music being boring and that's also why i can't really listen to some of canibus shit and a few others.
