Thats right West Coast Stone and George Clinton are going to be in concert in Tacoma on May 27th and we are looking for 2 artists that would like to open the show. We are looking for R&B, Funk, or Reggae artists. No Gangsta/Hardcore Rappers please. Artists must have their own music and be proffessional. Each of the selected artists must pay a $50 entry fee and be able to sell 30 presale tickets @ $20 each. We will be holding auditions on March 11th @ 3pm in Tacoma. If interested please send me a message or call me at 253-405-6280. There will be an extensive promotional campaign for this concert. We will be distributing 10,000 flyers throughout the Northwest, using radio advertisments, Print ads, as well as internet advertising. The 2 chosen group/artists will be listed as openers on all advertisments as well as print material used for promotions.

So you're tellin me that you're trying to get people to help you by opening, but they have to PAY to open and sell tickets? And all they get is their name on a flyer? Seems like you're asking a lot of these people, usually people get paid to open or at least don't have to PAY to help you. Sounds funny to me but maybe I'm missing something?

If somebody is interested in the exposure or the credentials of the affiliation, it could be a win/win situation. I mean, it might not sound that important now, but having a resume (one sheet) in this business will be important and saying you've done a show with George Clinton would be a nice addition to said resume.

^^I agree with you on that. It just reminded me of something Immortal Technique went off about regarding promoters. But didn't Neema open for Christina Aquelera (sp?) or someone "big" a long ass time ago? I just think it's kinda odd that someone would have to pay do be in a show considering most people either get paid or don't have to do shit besides promote (flyers, etc). I realize I came off sounding pretty negative, but seriously...I could see if it was a contest you had to pay to get into, but to open for someone and to have to pay just to help someone else out (even if you get ONE gig on your resume) seems off to me. I'm not saying it's not a good opportunity for someone, just sayin it doesn't benefit the people that will open as much as it would the hosts and "real" performers of the event. Yes, I'm pessimistic.

We are looking for professional artists that can bring something to the show. I've worked with alot of people out here on other shows and I have found that they are late, don't show, or don't follow guidelines that are agreed upon before the shows. By getting artist to invest in themselves we are hoping to cut out all the B.S. Also, paying $50 to get on a show that will have radio advertisments, newspaper prints, flyers, and internet advertising is nothing. To me if an artists can't sell 30 tickets to one of their shows that will have a headliner such as George Clinton than thats not who we are looking for anyway. As the comment below states, this would be a great opportunity to promote yourself as an artist and have this show on your resume.

^^That's fucking weak that people seriously don't show or show up late. That's amazing to me that people would just do some shit like that. I mean, I've been to shows where people show up late, but not at all? Those people shouldn't even be in any type of business if they can't follow simple guidelines like actually showing up when they say they will. But I guess a lot of people dont' understand what it is to be responsible or professional.

Stick up for what you say.....LOL Sixx

Its not just $50 bucks, its $650 dollers all together, Tha'ts $1300 for 2 artist

when they give you $50 bucks and sell 30 tickets for your show.

i can go for cat's paying to play if they dont have a name, but sell your show out is not the job of the open act.
this is why we need to take our music back, its getting sold out every day!!
for $600 bucks you can buy your own 10,000 flyers, and put together your show, to sell your cd's, and MAKE MONEY BACK!
your a artist in the game to make money off your hard studio work and investment, even new up and coming artist dont go to the city early to sell tickets for the promotor. this is away for people to make money anyway they can, befo you knowit you would have payed for the whole show.

this is a forum, so that means its only my opinion on this matter, not to hate on what your doing but, it has to stop, this type of stuff is killing the music seen.

remember promotors book artist to make artist and them money. not to make money from the artist.

This is Steve O- Boss of Ocean Records.....

The big problem here is new jack promoters actin like they been in the game when in fact they new to the game and the scene...

As a label head- I would NEVER allow my act's to get played like that....You either pay them or they do it for love..Pay you and sale tickets? Not gonna happen...Any self respecting artist would not fall for that okie doke...

I also promote concerts as well...I have never had any comedian or act sale tickets or pay me money as a requirement to perform....Your gonna be on the flyer and tv spots regardless of you being the headliner or the opening act, dj or the host....

If you are really a promoter that has been down with all these artists and have been around, then you know who you should be dealing with and who you should not be dealin with....

You have artists like E Dawg, 151, Skuntdunnana (DAMMMM - did I spelll that right??), Redskin and cru, Strik & Krusal and many others, Blue Schollars, Boom Bap...All professionals, NONE of whom would pay you shit or sale your tickets for you.....

The game is all fucked up...Promoters promotin fake ass shows and stickin the ticket buyer with a poorly put together event...

NOW- is this a West Coast Stone show and George is performing a track w/him or is this a George Clinton concert (like your promoting it) and West Coast Stone is a opening act? Is West Coast Stone paying you? Is he moving tickets?

Let's keep it real...

I didn't even calculate how much it would actually be...But I did ask someone about it to see if they wanted to do it and once I said the selling the tickets there was an immediate "fuck no." So I guess it depends on what kind of artist it is and how well-known they are, and if they want to do that. I do think it's faulty though when people don't show up when they say they will or show up late. Thanks for pointing out the total amount on that though, I should have thought about that before I said I retract my statements....Oh well...

It all comes down to paying your dues. I'm pretty sure not one of the artists that were name dropped would be interested in this opportunity. However, if there is somebody out there without a name, this is an opportunity to jump onto something relatively bigger than their current status.

As fucked as it sounds on paper, that $650 is really only $50 out of your pocket and 30 tickets out of your hustle. What sounds suspect is that $50, I mean if you're trying to get them to sell tickets, just make them sell 5 more tickets or something.

Seriously, what the situation comes down to is in this case, the artist needs to serve a dual purpose. They need more promoters. In exchange for this promotion and investment into the show, the aritist will get to perform along side George Clinton. If your style isn't too far off from his demographic you might sell 10-20 CD's that night just off of your perfromance.

To a up and coming artist, this could be a serious opportunity. To an already established artist, you really shouldn't worry about this.

Artist don't work to become ticket master.
paying dues is to get up there and make X amount of people who dont know you, leave sayin you rock that mutha.
paying dues is stickin to this fucked up game putting all you have into this bitch, untill somebody jump on and get hip to yo shit.

puff did not ask the band to go get him some money.....LOl

if you sell tickets and going to perform free, you need a % off the tickets you sell.

That makes artist want to work harder when they start gettin payed for the stage work.

Puff made them go get Cheesecake instead of money. He humbled those cats, something that everyone seems to need from time to time. If you aren't trying to sell tickets, then don't... I'm sure there's many more opportunities for you, being that you're one of the most established in this area, but for somebody who doesn't have a name, they're going to need an alterior method of achievement.

There's more than one way to get where you wanna be. Utilizing every opportunity you can will only greater your odds of achievement.

Man look selling tickets like i said is not for the artist thats ask to perform free. thats called pimpin!! i don't care if you dont have a name, you are a broke artist trying to make it so you can eat.
See this is the deal homie if its G-clinton coming to rock, you are selling tickets for what? the $50 dollars is for me to rock in front of his fans, not mine cause i dont have none get it. if you got to go sell a artist with the fame he got!! that's not good anyway, ticket master should handle that..LOl
like i said i agree with the $50 but to be force to sell tickets please. and please name a few artist that got big doing that shit?? alot of cats are broke and spent they last on the 1000 cd's they got. so what, if your and hot artist you cant show the local people cause you dont have the money to play. you get booked because the promotor seen you get down befo or heard of you, not cause you paid to play.

That's how it works some of the times. I'm not saying you're wrong. This is just another way to get out there.

Every independant artist should be a promoter of themselves. I don't even feel the need to argue this, because I really don't think it's worth argueing. I agree with your points. It is 'pimpin'' as you put it. But sometimes, it's gotta be done.

If this person proves they can bring 30 people to a show, then maybe their net worth will raise next time somebody is looking to put one on. You can either take advantage of this opportunity or not... this is not a career maker, it's just a step you can choose to take if it feels right at that point in time of your career.

Sometimes, you gotta hoe yourself out. You get breaks by putting yourself out there. Who's to say doing this show won't lead to bigger and better things? Is it really all that hard to sell 30 tickets and cough up $50? Maybe that's the initiative that somebody needs to see, before they start believing in you as a promoter of your art.

You have to be out there, in the public eye in order to get major attention. This is just one way to do it.

Ok, let me start by saying we are not asking the opening acts to sell out our show!! We are asking them to sell 30 tickets!! Why is that so unreasonable for a venue that will hold 1500??? We are not asking them to go out and pass out flyers, hang posters, do any of the internet advertising or any of the other promotional stuff. That is our job. And asking them to pay $50 on a show that could cost upward of $20,000 to produce is not going to make a difference in our budget. What we are trying to do is scout out the artists that are serious about what they are doing. I can understand what the artists do and how hard they work putting together their albums but on the flip, we do the same. I'm not just worried about this one show, but the northwest music scene as a whole. I never expected that the E-Dawg's, 151's, or the Unexpected Arrival's etc. would be interested in this opportunity. These slots are for the artists that are trying to get exposure and that aren't quite at that level yet. Now I'm not saying that by doing this show you will become an instant hit or anything but this show will add creditablity to a resume for an up and coming artist.

And for Steve-O to say his "new jack" comment is unfair!!! When in any of this did we say anything or did anyone ask about how long we have been in business or anything along those lines??? But for those who want to know, FootWork Media started in April of 2005. In this past year we have done over 50 shows at 6 differnt venues. Does that mean I'm saying I'm an expert or know everything there is to know, of course not. I learn something new about the biz and artists everyday, but what I am sayin is I was approched with this show, we did not ask to be on it, so we must be doing something right. I have worked with and made connections with people that very professional and take their career very seriously and for those people I go above and beond the role of just a promoter. I help promote their shows (even if they arn't ones I'm doing) or business, help them get on to other shows, come out and support, help them network with other people that can help them above what I can do, and never ask for money or anything else in return. I am truly dedicated to the northwest music scene whatever you think my methods or experience are.

Opinions are like assholes...We all have one..

I think the whole concept of an artist paying $50 is BS...My opinion! With all these shows and venues you have done, you should know who to deal with...If an artist is not on a level of a E Dawg, 151, UA or who ever, do they even deserve to share a stage w/George? If this is about "payin dues" - then the afore mentinoned artists are exactly the ones who should be opening the show....

Opening this show should not be a learning ground to enhance your 'resume'...

I also asked was this a West Coast Stone show (NO KNOCK TO THIS MAN- HE'S HELLA TITE) or is this a George Clinton show? You replied but skipped that question????

It is also my opinion that most the cats who buy a ticket to this will be P Funk og's from back in the day, expecting a P Funk show...These cats are not going to be thrilled to see a rap show featuring Geroge Clinton on a track or two....

You need to clarify your show....

And for those of you that like the idea of payin for positions, come see me at my store with your new cd's....I only charge $50 for shelf space per title! Think about it...You can add to your flyer that your cd is available @ the HOTTEST URBAN store in the NW!

And if you don't know- now ya know!

I can respect your opinion, and realize everyone's will vary. I've never acted like anything I wasn't or promised anyone anything I couldn't deliver. So I felt your comment was unfounded. I have the most respect for E-Dawg. I've seen him overcome an awkward situation at a venue and still put on an amazing show. Unfortunetly, my job in this situation was not to fill the slots of larger named local artists. Like I said I have worked with some of the larger named artists in the area and would never ask them to pay to get on a show. (That's why I didn't contact them directly). I posted a bulletin letting people know exactly what we were looking for and what would be required so people would know what they were getting into.

This is going to be Stone's CD Release Party and a George Clinton show. And that is how we are going to promote it. G.C. will be doing his own set(not just the songs he and Stone have together) with a full live band. And in my opinion..we will have a great mix of people buying tickets. G.C. fans, Stone's fans, and the other artists who will be performing. That's why I believe this could be such a great opportunity.

Yes, G.C. fans that purchase tickets will be expecting a show by G.C. and I promise they will not be dissapointed when they leave. We are not trying to put on a hardcore rap show, thats why we are holding auditions to find the right group that will mix well with what we have in mind for the show.

Hopefully you can come check it out so you can see how professionally planned and excuted the show will be so next time you post a comment stating how I'm actin you can have a basis for your statement. :)
