i bought my Macbook pro off this site here. they give you mail in rebate for that final price, but they dont charge sales tax cuz they operate out of state. so in the end you save hella money instead of buying it in stores. theres a 15" one for 1580 after rebate.

and here is the screen I got for it....its huge and gives u alot of workspace.. 1080p with an HDMI port. (though u need to buy a 10 dollar adapter to hook it to the macbook pro cuz the computer doesnt have hdmi, only mini display port)

The problem with a laptop is once something goes wrong, most people will be forced to pay somebody to fix it. Desktops are far more customizable and when a component fails even a novice computer user can find a guide that will help them diagnose and fix hardware issues on their own. Plus, if you ever want to upgrade anything you'll have the option to do so, more so than any laptop. And if you go with any Mac, this is out of the question.
I own several laptops and I prefer desktops by a large margin. Laptops are cool if you need mobility, like if you need to take your work with you or you just want to be able to lug your computer everywhere you go. If you're cool with just using your computer at home, desktops shit all over laptops.

Thats why i said, if he KNOWS someone who knows their shit, get it through them...itll be cheaper.
On top of that, those store bought PC's are software-less....they have NO MS Office...NO Anti-virus...nothing. SO in the end, if you know someone who knows how to just go and get the software for free (which ANYONE can do these days...its really not that hard), you can build a very fast and up-to-date PC for under $400 FULLY loaded.
And FYI, many manufactured PC;'s use shitty, generic parts for things like PSU's and RAM. Its actually cheaper in the long run to get those two items yourself from trusted brands.

What I'm saying is if you want to build a computer with comparable specifications to the $370 computer I linked to, it will cost you a lot more than $400 unless you know someone who will come up with these parts very cheap - which is not easy to do unless they are stolen (which is fine with me LOL). You'd have to know someone who has a serious hook up somewhere. Most people don't know anyone like that, so building a comparable computer will cost a lot more than $400.

Manufactured PCs are clearly going to be of lesser quality than a custom-built, top-of-the-line computer, but they are good enough to last you several years and you can get more than your money's worth out of them.
So in conclusion, if you don't have a hook up (which most people don't), custom building a computer comparable to these manufactured computers' capabilities is no longer the cheaper way to go. Without a hook up, I can easily build you a computer for under $400, but it won't be comparable to that $400 manufactured PC's specs. Even if you have a hook up, it can go both ways. My uncle's partner hooks up these manufactured PCs for under $200.
