That's not necessarily true anymore. If you go to Best Buy, they got some desktops with nice specs for around $300-$400 (monitor not included, of course). When you go to build one that is comparable to the specs of these desktops, the motherboard is going to run you around $150, the tower can be up to $50 or more depending on your preference, 3 GB of RAM will be around $70, DVD/CD burner at least $50, a CPU can be anywhere from $120-$300, Hard Drives can be had for around $50-$100 and a graphics card is going to run around $100 (for a cheap one).
