Troy Smith has all the makings of a very good QB. He has great arm strength, he can make things happen with his legs when there's nothing there, he seems comfortable in the pocket, he scans his options, etc.. but he needs to work on his accuracy. It could be because he hasn't played in 3 years and he hasn't gotten much time to run the offense as a 3rd-string QB. He seems much more polished in the 2nd half, after easing in.
To his credit, he's working with a limited playbook and has gotten few chances to throw, yet he's still done very well. I want to see him with a wide-open playbook.
Our QB depth chart should be as follows:
1. Troy Smith
2. Nate Davis
3. Alex Smith
Alex and Nate are interchangeable only because Nate may not be ready yet.
