EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP)—Plenty of good seats are still available for Minnesota’s playoff game against Philadelphia.

The Vikings reported 8,000 tickets remaining at noon New Year’s Day for Sunday’s game against the Eagles. The NFL has granted an extension until 3:30 p.m. local time Friday to reach a virtual sellout, but the possibility of a local TV blackout looms.

The blackout would not only encompass the Twin Cities, but secondary markets in the region as well. It includes satellite, cable and over-the-air systems, so nobody in the area could watch the game unless they’re in attendance at the Metrodome.

Vice president of sales and marketing Steve LaCroix said the team has hired extra holiday help to solicit potential buyers. The Vikings haven’t had a game blacked out since 1997.

they've been close to blackout plenty of times since 97, but a local company like Target has stepped in and bought the remaining tickets at the last second... we'll see tho, they'll prolly get an extension from the NFL until Saturday because of the holiday

no sweat off my balls, I work anyway and will be listenin to it streaming on the web

fuck nfl blackouts, the nfl just penalizes fans.....not saying this is the case with the vikings this weekend but think about this.....most teams that dont sellout arent very good. thus people will not shell out money to watch a garbage product. the nfl then turns around and says screw you, you aint gonna watch this game unless you fork out the cash and go to the stadium

The NFL really doesn't give a shit if it gets blacked out because the rest of the nation outside of the Minnesota area will still be watching the game. Same with Arizona. If your team makes the playoffs and you STILL don't sell out the stadium then what kind of fan base do you really have? I know if the Niners made it to the playoffs and hosted a game and I was broke as fuck I'd sell some crack or whatever it takes to get my ass to that game. Shit, I'm pretty sure even the raiders would easily sell out if they were hosting a goddamn PLAYOFF game.

Vikings sold out all there regular season games.. With the economy, a lot of people canceled there season tickets for the playoffs.. Like half of season ticket owners. That's why these teams aren't selling out.

Exactly.

Doesn't matter in the end tho.

"This Sunday’s Wild Card game between the Vikings and Philadelphia Eagles at the Metrodome will be broadcast locally on (KMSP Fox 9 in the Twin Cities) after fans rallied around their team and purchased 20,000 seats in the past six days. Sunday will mark the 115th consecutive home sellout for the Vikings as a packed house will see the Purple play a home playoff game for the first time since January of 2001."

Since the destruction of the Dallas Cowboys at the hands of the Philadelphia Eagles during Week 17 of the regular season, Tony Romo has managed to keep an extremely low media profile.

He managed to do that effectively until Saturday afternoon, when reports out of the Hubert Humphrey Metrodome claim Tony Romo was responsible for purchasing the final tickets necessary for preventing a television blackout.

In the days leading up to the Wild Card game between the Eagles and Minnesota Vikings, there was a legitimate threat that the playoff contest would be blacked out for local football fans.

Not enough tickets were sold, and the Vikings were in danger of losing home-field advantage to Eagles fans willing to travel.

"[Tony Romo] called the box office and asked how many tickets were still available," said Tiffany Osgood, a four-year telephone sales representative from Normandale Community College. "I thought it was a prank, but the credit card cleared...so whatever."

Osgood declined to disclose how much Romo spent on the tickets.

It's the latest bit of good Samaritan behavior from the Cowboys' quarterback. Romo has made headlines in 2008 for changing tires along deserted roads, treating homeless men to movies, and stopping a bank robbery.

Vikings head coach Brad Childress had nothing but good things to say about Romo. "I don't care what his motivation was, but that young man is a class act all the way. We really wanted all of our hometown fans to enjoy this, and I'm glad he made it possible."

When news of the potential blackout broke, the Eagles were encouraging local fans to purchase the remaining tickets and make the trip to support their team.

Sources close to Romo believe he was so disgusted by the suggestion, he made an impulse purchase to secure the remaining tickets himself.

There is no word on what Romo plans to do with the tickets.

Local fans are hoping Romo will give them away to Vikings fans, but many believe he only sought vengeance on Philadelphia.
