SACRAMENTO, CA - The father of a fourth-grader at a Sacramento elementary school is under arrest after Sacramento County sheriff's deputies found a loaded gun near the school's playground Tuesday morning.
According to Elk Grove Unified School District spokeswoman Elizabeth Graswich, fellow students told their teacher at Charles Mack Elementary School the boy had brought bullets to school and passed them out to at least one other student. The teacher found bullets in the boy's desk and alerted authorities.
Tuesday morning students reported the same boy brought a gun to school and hid it by the playground. Graswich said sheriff's deputies were summoned about 9 a.m. and found the 40 caliber semi-automatic handgun loaded and with the slide pulled back, according to Graswich.
The student told authorities he brought the gun and bullets to school on Monday, according to Graswich.
Deputies arrested the boy's father, Danny Thung, 37. He faces three misdemeanor charges including child endangerment and criminal storage of a firearm.
Thung's wife told News10 the gun was locked in a gun safe, but the boy knew where to find the key.
School administrators sent home a letter to parents about the incident.
