there's subtle differences with linux that make it better. you have multiple desktops, it runs scripts (which are editable) rather than binary, you have more flexibility with setting permissions if you have multiple users, a lot of it is run from a command prompt, the task bar is fully customizable, i like the directory setup better, the programs are free and you can check out the source codes (if that's your kinda thing...), it can emulate windows if you really need it to...

and it's something new and takes some thinking to use. i like that. i been using windows since....dos. i'm sick of windows. it's ugly too..lol

Ok, after finishing installing red hat linux 9, after the computer reboot, the monitor said "OPERATING SYSTEM NOT FOUND." Any ideas why it said that? I did buy my hard drive off of ebay and the person that sold it had 100% pos. feed back with over 100 feedbacks and she said her technician tested it and it works beautifully. Whoever installed red hat linux, did you bake a boot diskette? And if you did, did you put it in the floppy drive after the final cd was done installing?

nah, i didn't have to make a boot disk (although i did anyway). it automatically repartitioned my HD and worked when i restarted. i can only suggest trying again, unless someone else has a better idea, but it would probibaly just be quicker to try again than wait for a response. it's a fresh install anyway, so it's not like you'll lose anything.

when you try to re-install it, you should be able to check out your partition setup and modify it. the first partition should be the boot partition where lilo or grub would reside and the second (or third if you dual boot) should be the linux partition. if you used the automatic partitioning that comes with RH9's installer, it should have already set that up for you though. it *should* work.

Yeah I did it over and I used automatic partition. I made the boot diskette and when it was rebooting, it said fail fail all over the screen so I took out the diskette, same result "operating system not found." But when I restarted the cpu with the diskette inside, it worked? WTF. I have to put in the diskette everytime I start the cpu, this sucks.
