This will be fun if people DO NOT get offended right away and start to debate.

This is how the game will work:
You will need to write to 3-4 sentence paragraphs explaining to someone why they should and should NOT believe in something. 1 sentence will be for WHY THEY SHOULD and 1 sentence will be for WHY THEY SHOULDN'T.

An example will be something like:

The reason you should believe in Muhammad is because...........

Then

The reason you shouldn't believe in Muhammad is because...........

So, neither side Atheist or Theist has a comfortable role here. A Theist will have to explain why NOT to believe just like they explained why to believe.

Game on...........

reality is based on ones interpretation of ones perception which varies from everybody elses.

the reason u shouldnt believe in it is the same reason to believe in it, and that it would mean that this understanding is also based on perception.
but not believing in it automatically makes it valid.

so do whatever you want but the truth is that theres no truth.

you go jlmacn.

you should not believe this, at least yet, cause you dont know him, there could be a logical explanation

^^^I see some people already got offended....so I will go ahead and start this off for real.

I think you should believe in God (any) because there is a very good chance science will never solve the unanswerable questions. How did the galaxy come about? Where are the missing links between a chicken and a dog? God has clearly shown us that life here does not matter. This moment does not matter. It is my life after death that matters, and we actually live to see the next life; be it Heaven, reincarnation, Hell, etc...........So while all the so-called genius' out there are set out to answer this life's questions, we should only be concerned with the life after this one. The fact of the matter is, Atheist can be wrong about God not being real.

I do not think you should believe in God for many reasons, but I will keep it simple. If we look into the history of religion we will notice that God has been many things. Sun, Moon, Grass, Water, Ocean, Zeus, a mystical figure with 4 arms (Hindu), a Woman, Jesus, Muhammad, etc. It is only reasonable enough to believe that we give God meaning according to our beliefs and what we empower him/her in our minds capable of. Logically, if there is a God then there are several God's. Just as much a Christian can say prayer works and God gave to them or answered their prayers, a Buddhist can say the same thing about Buddha, and a Hindu can say the same thing about Shiva. The fact of the matter is, you can be wrong about your God being the 1 true God.

Come on ya'll lets play........

ok, so....

The reason people should believe that happinness and love is the right way to live out your life is because it automatically keeps you at a high level of understanding and ultimately has an ability to combat any anger or sadness. WHen you can understand and love unconditionally for anything, that be humans, animals, or plants it makes you a more concious person and a better role for society at large. If you can love unconditionally then that makes you better for understanding the roots of all emotions, actions and psychological conditions that have shaped those we live in this world with....

On the latter,

IF you do love constantly then, in fact you would not be able to appreciate it as if you were always angry and then all of a sudden you were happy. YOu need a dose of both emotions to understand the importance of eachother. Just as if you appreciate the sun after a long, cold, sunless winter, you appreciate unconditional love after you have been through a fear/anger-filled experience or thinking...

i still side with the first condition, that is in fact, because we have yet to raise a child completely surrounded by unconditional love and understanding, so how do we know that this condition is so inhumane of us to try to acquire?

food for thought...start munchin..

i think people should not play into what others tell them about god. to believe in and trust in god is a very deep and unexplainable thing. but it seems to many people let others shape their ideas about god and or religion as a whole. you should pray, read the bible, and find god for yourself, rather than believing in any god that another mere person describes to you. to me, this life does matter, i like to help others in their walk, and personally, i love to learn ideas and theories, and through this help others to be open minded to at least the possibility of a god so they can find god for themselves. and i believe that through trust, and faith in god, perhaps friendship with god, you will not be set apart to not partake in what he has created.

i think you should not take any of this advice if your already satisfied with what you have, being your beliefs in science or maybe just not caring. perhaps you dont believe in an afterlife at all, thats fine. there is no way to truly know, either theory could be correct. or maybe youve searched for god and found nothing, that isnt any of my business, but if thats the case, then maybe god doesnt work for everybody

good thread by the way

i believe in what I believe in because of my personal experience, which I believe ultimately leads to the decisions we make about what we believe in. I was raised a catholic, a very zealous and devote one at that. I did my research on the history of my belief and found many contradictions in the denomination, then I came to become a Seventh Day Adventist, to a pentocostal, to a free in Christ Non-denominational Christian/Messianic. I could vaguely say that my experience enough is the reason why I choose to believe in Jesus Christ and the bible. With my research, and what Has transpired in my young life. I have no rational explanation about my experiences, meaning I could easily say I prayed for something, and lo and behold it was there. Of course it would be too vague and that's the beauty of finding your way. Your experience is what helps you find your way, and your experience is deep but words can't express them. I can help someone understand my view and my faith but I can't force it like a medival inquisition.

Now I think you shouldn't believe in something like the bible or God out of pressure or because someone told you so. You have every right to reject the bible, God or a god, or religion in general. I think too many people, throughout history and modern times always look for a place to fit in. A place where they can say I'm one of them! I actually have a purpose in life. Sadly enough, if that's the only reason they do so, it can lead to a very harmful lifestyle. There is no religion that is an exception, even Christianity, if joined for the wrong reason can lead to a destructive life, I've seen this happen where a Man joined the church for a woman, faking speaking in tongues. Faking the Holy Spirit Feeling, then when he is rejected by her, Turns away from the Church and goes down hill.

I believe in what I believe in Because of my experience, but I also hold strong to the belief that you need to know what your getting into. I also believe if you seek something, like righteous and the truth or the way, you will find it.

people should actually take the time to think what words like love and god actually mean to them and they will see they are merely words meant to express feelings and ideas. it is insane that these two things, love and god, so complex, so full of meaning, and often indescribable, we relate to one another using 4 and 3 letter words.

people shouldnt actually take the time to define these things because, as it were, they often dont. because its too difficult and they are afraid of what they will find if they keep digging. we find solice in ambiguity. if i say i believe in god, and i devote my life to an invisible man who i dont even know is real in hope that he will be my friend after my brain dies, and who i only know because someone told me that someone told them that someone told them from an era where they still believed in a flat world and the earth as the center of the universe, then maybe that seems ridiculous and i sound like an idiot. but if i simply say i believe in god, then i sound virtuous, moral, noble, all rolled into one. if i say i love someone and that i would die for them, that i would care about them no matter what they do to me, that i would do anything for them, maybe i sound desparate and they reject me. if i simply say, i love you girl to every bitch i meet, i will easily get pussy

you should believe that this asshole can read, because he keeps saying the same shit.

This is cool and all, but you kinda missed the whole point here. I gave reasons for both of my stances. You on the other hand just gave a reason to believe, then said....Well you shouldnt believe in God because of pressure. That is not saying, you shouldnt believe in God.

interesting views and explanations as always, i agree with what you say about god, every time god is mentioned, people think you mean the christian god, being that everyone calls the savior they find "god" for lack of better terms, and their meaning by using this word is often not given

and that just goes to prove that reality is built on ones own interpretation of things, which once again is dictated by his upbringing which includes his birthplace, time period, and what he was taught to be truth.

there are many things that influences ones decisions such as being male or female since we each act based on our own priorities, which by the way are also learned behaviors.
