I personally think, if cats wanna keep it real, keep it real...if their main objective is to sell records and blow up...you can still keep it real, but you gotta have singles that appeal to the masses....and that hardcore shoot em up Bay shit doesn't appeal to the masses, regardless of what everybody thinks. There's a way to be hard, keep it real, and still appeal....but people around here aren't doin it. Quinn IMO is doin it right, but everybody else is focused on who's the hardest, most ruthless individual rather than who can put together a hit record!! Once people stop trying to show their credentials on every track, and actually put some MUSIC together, the Bay is unstoppable, that's a given...people just need to realize shit changes and what worked in 1994-1996 doesn't work in 2004!!

someone finally spoke up.......it's sad that alot of the responses feel the same way just can't say anything because everyone on here will bash them. I could not have said it any better myself!! I used to say stupid shit on wax too, but I mean, there's a time in a man's life where he grows up, and has to be a MAN. If you talk about blastin cats on every song, people are gonna test, to see if you're really loadin, packin, cockin, and blastin'!! I hope people don't take offense to this...but myself, I find myself to be more of a man, if I speak on goin from the shoulders....and either winning or getting my ass beat....if I fight with my fists, regardless of the outcome, I feel like more of a man than if I picked up a gun every time somebody stepped to me!!! I was young once, and I used to think a strap would solve my problems...but in reality, that would bring worse problems to a person. The thing that i don't understant is "WHAT ELSE IS THEIR TO RAP ABOUT", i mean lets be realistic here. If it ain't about BITCHES,CARS,HUSTLIN,POLITICAL ETC. I understand 100% how it feels to be fustrated and irritated by hearing people complain about why they have a hard time becoming successful in the music industry. First of all, all artist and producers must realize that this is not the most promising career, especially if you are doing it simply for the fame and fortune. Secondly, KMEL is only ONE avenue of many to share your craft with others who appreciate Underground hip hop. This is a very Dynamic business and we must research to find other avenues such as College, Community and Online radio to promote and share our music. I do agree with you Chuck on how Bay Artist have a tendacy to submit incomplete material or just rushed material. This has to Stop. With all that i've just said, It is clearly time for us to step up if we expect to be played on one of the most popular stations in the Country or Step out and look at other avenues. I'm sure that KMEL is overlooking several acts of undiscovered talent due to the fact that they are running a business and do not want to take the chance of their ratings going down due to adding unworthy and unpopular artist into rotation which is understandable. Hopefully they won't overlook some of the New talent that is Undiscovered. Take all this as simply food for thought. I'm fighting the same battle that everyone who submitted material is. My Group 580, who I feel is talented has not been played yet. I say all this to say let's support eachother and call in, email & request for Undiscovered Real Talent to be played. Isn't that what this is really about?

what pisses me off is, people are killin people on the radio and in video songs, but when people in the bay do it, it don't get played on the radio!

I live in NY right now, i play shit from the bay, and they say it's too gangsta for them, i think it's because they believe the bay cats will actually do it! They don't believe that the mainstream artists will actually kill anyone.

I'm tired of hearing why the bay ain't blowin up. Only one person hit it on the head to me, the quality ain't good, but the buisness is even worse!!!!! put out a video and advertise in more places than murder dog, the siccness and xplosive!

Why don't these Bay Area cats blow up? It's a combination of a lot of things. But mainly it's their lack of business skills. You gotta have $$$ to get radio play. Instead of spendin money on cars, jewelry, and weed, use some of that cash to buy some radio spins.... The radio is monopolized by the major labels, you only have a couple hours of requests a day. You cannot bank on that small window, you need to pay for radio play during peak hours....

It takes money to make money so use it wisely....

Yea, I've never really listened to Bay Rap because of this...I listened to the shit between 92 & 96....then I stopped. I've been sayin Bay Area Rappers need to change otherwise shit won't be done, and people would get on my case and call me an idiot, so I kept my mouth shut...but it's really good to see people finally realizing what cats like you and I have known for years!!

We have good shit in the Bay. We always have had good shit in the Bay. It may not get on air but does that matter? You can get it and play it in your CD player drivin through the Town.


Everyone is saying the Bay needs to change.
what do they need to change into? Cause everytime someone is tryin to change I see ten thousand folks talkin down on them for leavin the bay mentality.
Bay is Originality. But its also stayin true. Bay is Bay. New Bay Old Bay. Its all Bay.

You cant say I didnt listen to Bay from this time to that cause there wasnt anything good. Every year good shit is Hustled. Maybe you just never heard it. Tell me One year nothin good came out the Bay? I will show you somethin good. We aint goin back to the Hay days of Bay Music. Even if we did it wouldnt sell now cause that was what was felt a decade ago.

Dont knock other regions such as East, Mid, South or North west if it is good music. You want them to show you love.

So focus on your music, Dont knock the next mans Hustle. Unlike folks mentality most artists just dont get signed overnight. It takes time sweat and years.
Even if you aint feelin they shit dont disrespect it, especially if they are bein true. You never know when you will want to work with them. Dont come through telln folks to Buy this or Support that if You aint doin the Same. Dont focus on What dont concern you. If you dont listen to KMEL dont worry about what they are doin. If you do and want to help them change it back to Bay Shoot them some Good shit. Truth is if it is loved by the Listeners it will get sometype of play.

Dont expect 100% support from your Peers if you give them 5%. Dont expect a hand out each time you work with good folks even if they are Your Close friends. They out to get the Scratch like you. Plus good Music deserves its Pay.
Put time into your music, dont go for how many CD's you can release each year. Focus on how many good songs you can put out.

I live in Sac but have been involved in the Bay Music since the "Hey day" and got love for it. Its where My family is.
