Nick makes some good points but my thought is this. The fuckers in mainstream so to say have already played out the beat by the time mixtapes are out. But I like to hear what lyrics Kutt and Grant Rice put together for the song. My favorite one is Trippin with the beat from tipsy. Now I think Kutt and Grant did justice to that song cause before them it was just a catchy jingle sung by some guy that wasnt even old enough to go the the club. In the video the party is in the house. Now I may not be that musically inclined but if he is gonna rap about the club shouldnt he be old enough to go? Like Grant Rice says every fucking time you give us a fucking beat let us get the beats man. Every time mainstream puts out a new act thats a new beat for Strange and Grant Rice and Empire to use. They make better use of them. I will stop babbling now and try to work.

lol

And tell me how is Kutt supposed to "shine" off a mixtape? What independent artist has gained success off of a mixtape outside of Texas?

The replayability (yeah i made up that word) isn't very high.
Made up words are fuckin cool if you use them in the right context.

Mix tapes are pretty big in New York... but I will say this: 50 Cent or Lloyd Banks didnt actually "gain success" off of their mixtapes, it just kinda got them some credability as a rapper in their area. 95% of the people that gave 50 and his whole camp "success" i.e; major record sales- dont know shit about his mixtapes.

Personally, I would much rather have a new Kutt CD than just a mixtape. Ahh well though, it is pretty tight to hear a lesser known rapper tear up mainstream rappers flows over their own beats.

I.M.O... Mixtapes are a waste of time. I've done only one mixtape in my life, and figured that it'd be a waste of lyrics in the end. But Mixtapes are good in a sense if you record 5 or so mixtape tracks and give em away or a highly anticipated and well promoted mixtape release by a prominent person or DJ. Now, we all dont know, but M5, Kutty and whoever may pump it hard. Kutt may promote it on the road after he tears it up on stage, have Steve or Jose' Ole' back at the merch table selling em' like hotcakes once he announces they are available and even for a good price. It puts Grew and everyone on at the same time. I think its well thought out.

I think that in order for a mixtape to sell in Kansas City, you would actually need all the "Familiar" names say fuck the beef, lets come together and make this money. Especially the bitch ass radio stations. Get Vell, Popper, Kutty, Grant, S.G. Vertigo, Trajik, Killa Kev, Grerwsum, Fat Tone, 57 RDV's and many others to come together and collab, each one take their share of the CD's and get em off at their own expense. From there everybody gets some exposure and makes a little cheese. Thats the difference between us and them (Other cities with rappers that made it) We refuse to come together and make it happen. I'm sure beef is everywhere and we dont know about it, but cats in the town act like they got the next new single thats bout to tear up the industry and dont want to fuck with nobody else. Cant do it alone, I can tell you that...

You serious?......not THE Craig Mack......Put the Flavor in Ya Ear.?

And yeah, I agree that "most" mixtapes are weak and a waste of time. Besides, everybody just raps right over the same shit somebody just released a month before. Who can't do that? I mean shit, we was making mixtapes then back in 98' recording on some tapes cuz we couldn't afford quality production.

word, at least u didnt try and defend your label
It's pretty easy to see that you and Swick don't really care for me or the people I associate with so why waste my time arguing or defending my views? Whatever I have to say won't do anything to change either of your opinions, so I'll just let the two of ya have fun.

I was refering to mixtapes as a whole won't make many artists shine, unless of course its something on a larger scale (ie Kayslay, Funkmaster Flex, Whoo Kid, Green Lantern). I am anxious to hear anything Kutt spits on, I could care less who produced it, recorded it, mixed it. But what you said is true to an extent.....I dont really care for you and I guess its best you dont waste your time. This is hardly "fun" for me. I just happened to have a day off and decided to post on the board Ive grown to know & love instead of ghosting. Best of luck to ya Matty.
