His comments come from his interview in the March issue of Playboy. Here's the entire exchange...
Playboy: One of your biggest songs is "Jesus Walks." Is Jesus happy with you?
West: God is. I personally believe Jesus dies for our sins, because that's the way I was raised. Same reason I like fat asses: That's how I was raised. If I had been raised in an all-white community, maybe I'd like skinny asses. I try to walk and be more Christlike. I'm a man, and I have shortcomings. But I think if there were a bible written today in the new millenium, I'd be one of the characters.
Playboy: What role would you play in this bible?
West: I'd be a griot. I bring up historical subjects in a way that makes kids want to learn about them. I'm an inspirational speaker. I changed the sound of music more than one time: I did it with The Blueprint, did it again with The College Dropout. For all these reasons, I'd be a part of the bible. I'm definitely in the history books already. "Jesus Walks"-that song will never go away.
