kinda like jailbreaking the iphone...

but rooting gives you more access to the phone..

you can uninstall pre-installed and make changes to your phone...

I already been there and got a few tips from them, great forum though.

I'm not savvy when it comes to shit like this, so I'm really juiced that I did it..

I kind of want to run another ROM on my phone, but I don't want to fuck it up...

Thats the entire purpose of root access.

I want to get the Hero HTC 2.1 rom ...but I'm gonna hold out till the actual update comes out....removing certain apps made my phone faster though..

2.1 Wont be coming out until March though, XDA has a ROM for it now though. Im using it as we speak.

now that it's rewted can you tether it as a modem . I did that to my instinct about 9 months ago. Free innerwebs included in the outrageous monthly fee

which ROM are you using?

and yes I can use my phone as a modem...but why the hell do I want to do that when I have cable internet and unlimited data use on my phone?

I dont have the Hero, I have the moment but he made the exact rom for the moment and it works flawlessly

I read a lot of those post's, I'm telling you. I'm going to hold out and wait for the actual update we get in March, I'm really happy with my HTC Hero right now though.
