PRESS RELEASE / FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PORTLAND, OR – Big things are brewing in the Northwest. Portland to be exact! On July 30th, 2005 Dynasty Entertainment in conjunction with Portland indie rap powerhouse Jus Family Records, brings you the first annual Northwest Rap Summit. Held at the world famous Roseland Theatre and Grill located at 10 NW 6th Avenue
Portland, Oregon, the Northwest Rap Summit will be a historic, much needed outlet for the Northwest’s independent rap music industry.

The Northwest has long been a haven for the birth of great musical geniuses from Nirvana to Jimi Hendrix to Sir Mix A lot and multi-platinum rap producer Bosko. Never has the independent pioneering spirit been more apparent than in Jus Family Records’ founder/rap artist and Portland, Oregon native Cool Nutz. For this reason the people who put on the ultra successful Bay Area Rap Summit in April have joined forces with Cool Nutz and Jus Family Records to bring about this highly charged much needed event. MTV and other traditional media outlets have long overlooked the Northwest music industry, particularly the hip-hop scene and what it has done for hip-hop as a whole and now we are doing something about it!

The First Annual Northwest Rap Summit will be a professional, educational, and industry networking event with a focus on “how to build and succeed in the independent rap game” in today’s volatile marketplace. Guest speakers and panelists will discuss a wide range of topics that face the independent artist and label from artist development, to radio and mix shows to securing distribution. There will also be showcases of up and coming artists as well as a freestyle competitions. Heavy emphasis will be placed on the importance of networking as well as adapting to an industry that has become heavily reliant on modern technology including the internet, digital recording programs and the like.

Come out for a day of education, food, fun, networking, and a chance to meet with some of the industry’s top professionals as well as artist’s and radio personalities. All eyes are on the rap industry, so please remember this is a professional event and no negativity of any kind will be tolerated. Hopefully, this small event will give birth to a much larger and successful event with everyone’s support.

USING the NW name..? if you have a release to promote- come on out... this is a event that will be beneficial to all those that participate in a positive manner.
What it seems like and what it is like are two different entities.

Stay tuned for more updates as we get closer to the 30th....

Anybody hear about the -northwest hiphop summit- that went on in kirkland, washington last year. it was at the kirkland teen center.I used to work there. sounds like these two events will be similar. at that event they had a panel, a b-boy battle, numerous artists performing, northwest hiphop publication and radio personalities. tons of merchandise. Sonny Bonoho helped throw that. sonny is the man!

Questions regarding summit

I'm sitting here handling my 7@7 countdown, checking out the siccness.net, and I come to discover a northwest rap summit is to be taking place very soon.... I have several questions regarding this event and it's purposes?

Well first, allow myself to introduce myself, screenname Zac Wood, but the radio name is Big Kid Bootz. (I see that without my consent, my name has been attached to the panel as a representative of Jammin 95.5. I usually would object to this and take proper action but because Coolnutz and Bosko are involved with this event, I will be down to support the summit because of my respect for the northwest and Jus Family Records)

With that being said, I feel it is important to post a few key points. The summit is no doubt a great concept and could be a valuable tool for artists that are in need of information and networking tools, but without a reputable panel and purposeful agenda, this could easily sway to the darkside. What I mean by that is that I would hate to see this summit turn into a money making scheme that plays on the vulnerability and inexperience of the upcoming artist. Having logged onto the bay area rap summit website, I saw the price of admission was 35 paypal advance and 50 the day off.

Question #1- How do you justify prices like that to an upcoming artist? If the goal is to break even and cover costs, prices should be based on that, where in my mind, anything more than 10 or 20 dollars, seems like a promoter's attempt to fatten his pocket. It seems unfair to play on the idea of wanting to help all the upcoming artists, but at the same time charging more than the price of a snoop dogg concert. (I bet the return arguement says that you can't put a price on this valuable information and 35 or 50 dollars is nothing compared to the real value of the information. But admission price should be based on hard costs compared to the number of expected attendees, and not intended for profit)

Question #2- Can you offer some feedback and concrete information regarding the success of the bay area conference? The number of confirmed attendees. The panel lineup. Feedback from those who attented. Pictures and Video. These tools would be valuable to artists considering coming to the portland summit and offer credibility to your cause. (Too many promoters talk big and deliver small)

I guess what I find most important to discover is this: What is truly being offered to attendees of this summit? I saw in the press release that the idea was to deliver important information and offer networking opportunities, but without a strong panel of real industry profesionals, and a clear and informative agenda, how do you convince people to attend? Where is the major label representation? Major Distributors? A&R's? Studio Executives? Mixshow Dj's? I understand Coolnutz, Bosko, and several other prominent northwest profesionals will be present, which greatly validates the cause, but where is the representation from outside the northwest (i.e. Los Angeles and New York) to teach attendees what it takes to move from the regional level to the national level.

What up dog? This is B-12. Long time....anyhow, I would love to answer that since my company is also supporting this. First on your name, that is out of respect for what you are doing up there, and Dutch was supposed to get at you about it. Im not sure if he did or not but that's what that is.

Second, without going into a long-winded response because I'm kinda tired today, lol, there are lot of well known industry cats who are supposed to be coming out and we are waiting for them to sign on. Soren Baker from The Source, we are trying to get the legend Steve Smith from Clear Channel etc.

The turnout in the Bay was packed.

And you said it best, no you can't put a price on that kind of information when similar events are upwards of $300.00

This was a teaser for the siccness and that's all. There are pictures, video etc that will be available for the Bay Area Rap Summit which went over very well.

Stay up dog and hit me, we need to hollar anyway.

PS

And incidentally, the reason we want to have alot of local power players is becuase it is important to have local reps who have made good so that the attendees can apply practical information to their careers rather than bank on what "Russell Simmons" says and has done because although entertaining and inspiring his career paths and choices and successes have very little to do with an artist or label who has limited options in the early stages of their careers. Dont get me wrong though I would love to have Russell Simmons. LOL

Anyway, good points, I appreciate the candor and feedback. We need more people liek you to speak up beause we are doing this on our own and for the good of the game, we actually lost money on the BARS but we did it for the hometeam to benefit.

That's what I'm talkin bout!

B12-

Good looking my dude. That's what I was looking for. More information and honest delivery. Like I said, I do believe 100% that this event can be a great success and useful tool to upcoming artists, but as profesionals in the business, we need to deliver a quality product.

I will contact you and my cousin tomorrow to catch up and discuss this further...

Turf Hitta: The names were thrown on there because they are the names in the northwest not for no other reason. If any of them dont want to show up they dont have to. Its a respect issue. As for being a janky ass event you got it fucked up. Danny Dee, and Jus Family are doing some goo shit for the industry. There will be important names in the building...trust that

And you and Killa Tay are both invited...

LOL I talked to my dude Octavius and he didnt know nothin about it either. This shit seem janky as fuck to me. They just throwin names on the list just to have em on there. LOL I wonder is Jus Family is even involved cause it seems like nobody else on the list know anything about it neither. What I dont get is if you just gonna be makin up shit why not say some big names is gonna be there? Jus Fam is the homies but they aint really no name thats gonna draw thousands of people to you shady ass function. Long as you lyin about who is comin you might as well just say 50 cent, Dr Dre and Ying Yang Twinz, Jimmy Iovine the Neptunes and Lil Jon is gonna be there, then a muhfucka might pay that 35-50 to get in. I heard Killa Tay was gonna be in Portland that day. This might could get interesting.

You just made me embarrassed to be from the NW.... why is it folks first instinct is to talk shit, its almost like they be nervous that an event like this might be successful.. if you dont got the $35 I'm sure I can hook you up with some promo to hand out to folks outside in the parkinglot.. holla
