WTF WAS HE THINKING?!?!?

ALAMEDA — Former Oakland Raiders wide receiver Jerry Porter has told police that someone stole about $312,000 worth of his jewelry after he placed the items under his car seat while he went for a facial at an Oakland salon.

The 31-year-old Porter, who most recently played for the Jacksonville Jaguars, was set to speak with Alameda police detectives about the theft this afternoon. But Porter did not show up for the appointment and police say they are still trying to work out the details of what happened.

Porter reported the theft last week, telling an Alameda patrol officer that he discovered the jewelry missing from his black 2007 BMW M6 on Dec. 17.

Porter said he last the jewelry 10 days earlier, when he slipped it into a bag and then placed the bag under a car seat after he parked near the Montclair Loann Salon on Moraga Avenue in Oakland, where he went for a facial.

His car did not show any evidence of a break-in, police said.

Porter told police that he did not immediately report the theft because he had been busy and because he had recently shipped the BMW to Florida, where he's planning to move.

Porter currently lives in Alameda, where the Oakland Raiders headquarters is also located.

A description of the stolen jewelry was not immediately available.

Porter was out of football this year after getting released by the Jacksonville Jaguars before the season started.

Porter had signed a six-year, $30 million contract with Jacksonville in 2008, but played just one season there, catching 11 passes for 181 yards and one touchdown. He was beset by injuries during his brief time in Jacksonville,. He injured his hamstring before the season and then suffered a season-ending groin injury later.

Porter played eight seasons for the Raiders after he was drafted in the second round of the NFL Draft in 2000.

He enjoyed some success in Oakland, particularly in 2004 when he caught 64 passes for 998 yards and seven touchdowns. But Porter was also sometimes considered a disruptive force in both Oakland and Jacksonville.

In 2006, the Raiders suspended him without pay for four games for conduct detrimental to the team. He was also blamed for causing chemistry problems in Jacksonville.

I'm thinking insurance scam....He didn't report it right away, left it 300K+ (jewelry) under his car seat??...no evidence of break-in, and doesn't play anymore (no current income)......lol
