LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Jermain Taylor and Winky Wright will fight in a middleweight championship bout June 17, agreeing to a deal Friday after more than a month of on-again, off-again negotiations.

Three sites are being considered for the fight: Las Vegas; Memphis, Tenn.; and Atlanta.

Gary Shaw, promoter for Wright, said Las Vegas was the most likely venue. The bout will be carried by HBO.

The WBC ordered Taylor (25-0) to make his next defense against Wright (50-3). If Taylor and Wright failed to reach an agreement, a purse offer was to be held in which other promoters would have the chance to bid for the fight.

Negotiations for the fight appeared to break down in January after Wright's team asked for a 50-50 split of the purse. Taylor's team apparently began considering other options, such as a fight against Australia's Sam Soliman.

But Taylor promoter Lou DiBella said Shaw resumed talks this week. DiBella had said Taylor's team would risk losing the WBC belt rather than accepting an unfair deal.

Shaw said the terms of the deal were "the same as they were before," but declined to specify. It is believed the offer to Wright was about $3 million, and Taylor would receive about $4 million.

Taylor beat Bernard Hopkins in July to win the middleweight championship, then beat him again in December.

"On June 17, everybody is going to see clearly who's the real champion," DiBella said.

This is gonna be one of the best fights of the year, fuck im stumped on this one but im pulling for Jermain Taylor to win.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The June 17 fight between middleweight champion Jermain Taylor and Winky Wright will be held in the FedEx Forum in Memphis, Tenn.

DiBella Entertainment, Gary Shaw Productions and Prize Fight Promotions announced the location on Friday.

"Memphis has illustrated clearly that it is a boxing town and the FedEx Forum is one of the finest arenas in the country," Lou DiBella, Taylor's promoter, said. "We look forward to the Southern hospitality in June."

Wright promoter Gary Shaw said the match will be "the most important fight" in the 160-pound division.

Taylor, of Little Rock, said he was pleased the fight could be held so close to home.

"Having held my last training camp there, and it being just two hours from Little Rock, Memphis is like a second home to me," Taylor said. "I can't wait to perform in front of my fans from Arkansas and my adopted hometown fans in Memphis. It's going to be a great night."

Taylor (25-0) won a decision over champion Bernard Hopkins in July for the middleweight titles, then won a second decision against Hopkins in December.

Wright (50-3) has a left-handed stance that many boxers find troubling. He has a long track record of victories against top-level fighters, including Shane Mosely and Felix Trinidad.

The fight marks the fifth consecutive year Memphis will host a top boxing event, dating to Lennox Lewis' knockout of Mike Tyson in 2002.

LOOKS LIKE JERMAINE HAS THE MAJORTY OF FANS IN MEPHIS AND THIS WILL ALSO FAVOR HIM THIS FIGHT IS GONNA BE DOPE!!!

Winky's going to shock Luo DiBella and HBO....

The only thing I'm afraid of is that Winky might got robbed of a decision.
But he's probably going to school Taylor so bad that he'll force the judges to give him the decision....
