After the lukewarm reception received by 2010's Hereafter, Clint Eastwood will look to bounce back to form with J. Edgar, an ambitious biopic centering on the controversial and lengthy run of J. Edgar Hoover as the country's first director of the F.B.I.
Warner Bros. has released the first look at the film, which shows Leonardo DiCaprio in full make-up as the title character. Starring alongside DiCaprio is Armie Hammer (The Social Network) as associate director of the F.B.I. Clyde Tolson, Judi Dench (Casino Royale) as Hoover's mother, Jeffrey Donovon (Burn Notice) as Robert Kennedy, Josh Lucas (Glory Road) as Charles Lindbergh and Naomi Watts (The Ring) as Helen Gandy, Hoover's personal secretary.
From the trailer, it looks as if the film will provide an all-encompassing look at the historical figure, beginning with Hoover's time as a young boy and ending with his final days as F.B.I. Director in the early 1970's.
J. Edgar has been scheduled for a wide release on November 11th, 2011.
