...That I ain't fuckin' with local cats anymore, every fuckin' joker out there wants their shit for free. Well Guess what My Gear ain't free, and I am Certified for this. Fools can't even fork over 80 bones for a beat, plus Gettin' The Vocals Recorded, and the mixdown on it. And they're tellin' me "what!? 80 bucks, thatz shady as fuck, it sounds like you tryin' to do me!". So I'm only fuckin' with serious folks that want to get their shit done. Real Talk. If I ain't gettin' money, or at least benefitting from it in some way(like The barter System) then I ain't fuckin' with it, NO MORE FREEBIES. Only My Artist(s) get that, that's cuz they are on my team.
And it's funny how some people act like they are your best buddy, just to get some studio time out of you. Like this one dude, I hooked him up on the 1st 3 tracks, and they came out lovely. I told the dude I have to charge him from now on, and he's like "I ain't got no money like that". This is the same dude that said "This ain't no game, I ain't makin' songs just to make songs, I'm makin' songs to make an album". He's right, this ain't no game, And gear does not come free.

A lot of people just don't know what it's worth until they start buying their own equipment or studio Time.

I was just venting a little, But obviously those are the types of people not to fuck with. I'm a nice guy, I'll hook up Cheap ass introductory rates and shit, or package deals, and fools still be bitchin', so fuck 'em.

LMAO! @ HERESY. you got me rollin' over here. It's funny, people that don't even know me are complainin' about prices.

The dude that was complaining about the 80 bucks called me before and was like "Yeah, I wanna do a song abot FAKE NIGGAZ!". He didn't get back to me until a few months later(the other night)

LOL!

The good news is shit like that eventually turns a cat into a savage which is exactly what you need to be if you want a top position.

Being humble and nice is cool if you are selling girl scout cookies but the sharks prey on shit like that. Not saying cats need to be straight assholes but you definately gotta let them know it's all business.

About 1 out of every 50 cats that claim to be rappers will actually pay for beats or recording because they know this is a business and services will cost them. But there is always those 49 other fools that are just playing around and wasting your time. When I run into people that say they need beats or recording time or songwriting or whatever,The first thing I ask them is what is their musical goal (realistically). If they don't have an answer then I know their not serious.
I was having people come to the house and hookin them up and after a while I saw that they were never going to pay or even offer to pay for production.I mean they would come to my house with new clothes and new shoes and the whole time I'm puttin all my money into equipment.Thats why I opened a studio to make everything official and only deal with "real" people.

Damn... I'm glad I came upon this thread. Everything you guys have said is right on point. What I'm seein is this: those who actually want to do something in the game more than just slangin' CD's to their homey's will pay for good beats. They understand that in order to be in this business, you have to treat it like a business. I'm still trying to understand how some of these cats expect us to contribute to a product for free, and then watch them get paid off of it. Damn that.

Every time an artist falls through my spot wanting tracks for free I ask them the following question... "if this were a restaurant would you expect to eat for free?"

Very good point, I'm gonna start asking folks that one. It does seem like most people just wanna fuck around. "Yo J, when can I get in there to fuck around?"

I feel what you're sayen folks and I think folks gotta get their bread right before a producer fuck wit em but seriously---who the fuck are you to say you chargen $500 a track, take it or leave it. You aint Dr. Dre dogg, earn some fuckin stripes. I see too many producers out here tryin charge cats hundreds of bones for a track and they ain't nobodys..and most the time the beats is average. Kev Ski- Aint peeped your beats but if they anything like the beats I've peeped of some of the other producers shit on here, it aint nothing special. and ya'al charge more than what I'm getting FIRE beats for. And I'm talkin names in the Bay Area and rap period. That's real, peep my album when it drops if you don't think so. I just think that there are some REAL ass, hungry artists out there like myself and some others that are looken to put out albums but everyone wants to rape you before you get your feet planted. Mother fuckers need to put in work and earn some credentials before you chargen $500 a beat, thats real. Unless you Bosko or Manny Fresh or Sean T, dont expect big bread right away. And work wit people who might not have all the bread (they better come wit somethen) but you see potential in them as an artist so you know you gon get paid. Everyone think they a producer and CEO whoopty whoop, but most the cats in this rap game dont possess half the business savvy they should. Real talk-- take this as you want.

On point

Out here in LA, 500 bucks a beat is reasonable. If a rapper hears a tight beat, and he wants that beat badly. I dont give a fuck if you set the price quote for 2 gz. HE WILL BREAK BREAD AND SNATCH IT UP BEFORE SOMEONE ELSE DOES...You can easily turn to someone else and sell it.

The mentality is way different from up North. Down here Rappers would rather have that beat on their album, rather than someone elses album. Thats what Rappers up North should start doin, BREAK BREAD!!!

I couldn't agree more and I'll add that.... Why do you think 99% of these rappers ain't shit and ain't gonna be shit? Because any mutha fucka who wants to argue the price of a hot $500 beat doesn't even respect the music itself and those type of people NEVER make it off their own doorstep.

Posting beat snippets on the internet is for cats who either really really want their music heard or couldn't get more than $500 a beat on their best day.
