There are many in the Arab world who will not rest until Israel is toppled.

Negotiations and peace treaties mean little or nothing to many radicals among the Muslim community. Ask any Islamist group if sharing the land of Israel is acceptable, and they will answer in one singular voice.

Indeed, it seems as if unless the US turns their back on Israel and allows it to be destroyed, we will be stuck in an endless war with the Middle East.

I am in concordance with Michael Scheuer. Unless US policies of supporting Middle Eastern regimes which are hated by many in the Middle Eastern world (Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt) change, our support for governments attempting to supress Islamic revolutions change (India, Chechnya, Russia, the Filipines), US support for Israel is withdrawn, and US military forces are removed from the Middle East, we will fight an endless war with Al-Qaeda or others of the same cause.

How can an end to this conflict be achieved?

What do you see in the future? Nuclear war, conventional wars, relative peace, the toppling of certain governments, Israeli and Palestinian sharing of chunks of Israel?

American citizens and the american government will be divided. When this division climaxes Russia and several south american countries (all being directed by China) will destroy america. Russia will become a "leader", will sign several treaties and will invade Israel.

And? I never stated we had plans to leave within the next two months. It takes time to apply for citizenship, sell homes, transfer money from accounts etc. We could be waiting for certain kids to graduate or for certain business ventures that were already in motion to pay off.

"Islamist" and "Islamic" are distinctive. While you may find many good-willing, Westernized groups of liberated women and kafir-lovers in Western countries, those with the most sway and legitimization in the Mid East are still those willing to advance Islam by any means necessary. Osama (whether or not you believe he caused 9/11) is more of a folk hero in the Middle East than a fugitive or criminal.

The belief that the United States and Israel are behind nearly every malady or problem in the Middle East is widespread, and it is shared by many here. 72% of Middle Eastern Muslims in a recent poll said that the land of Israel could not ever be shared peacefully between Israelis and Palestinians.

Those who responded that "yes, it could" were almost certainly liberal muslims, non-muslims, less zealous youth, or fringe groups. If you read the major speeches of the imams and the views put forth in print and television media, the picture is fairly clear.

Nearly every major Muslim site, for example, has some negative Israel section, ranging from discussions on the invalid state of Israel to diatribes on Jews as poison, filth, and swine.

That is not extremism. It's mainstream Muslim thought.

I don't doubt that something like this could very well happen in the near future - however the impetus for the division would have to be something huge. A war with Iran, perhaps?
