and also I am curious how old are you?
This is either a cute thread or sad thread depending on your answer BooBoo. If you are under 19 you have a lot of potential, just a really abstract mind, because the basis of all of this is so you can have FREETIME to have fun. If you are over 25 you are up shit creek and probably on something high powered. Anything in between and you're a toss up. I favor the 10 hour work week myself. I also am a proponent of working from home or a mobile workforce. There are other ways for you to achieve FREETIME without changing a million layers that are more realistic. Think of something tangible. Like 40 said you only dream when you are sleep. You need a concrete plan to achieve happiness.

I think we should go for this plan. I can then work 2 jobs for a total of 40 hours a week and make double the salary of everyone else while still working only 40 hours/week. I would be baaaalllllllin........

For all you economic gurus and what not, I just want to know if this thought is possible? I have no freaking clue, but I've been thinking about it considering how things are. I'm sure it's been thought of, that's why I ain't calling it an idea.

Anyways, I just want to know if it's possible to shorten the average day of a typical worker to 4hrs. instead of 8hrs. Basically cut full time 40hr workers to 20hrs a week. As a matter of fact, everyone gets their hours cut in half and wages cut in half. Your making 20 an hour, your now making 10.

Reason being, that way we have more freetime to do stuff, shop, be with family, etc... Wouldn't more freetime, allow us to go out and spend more to help the economy? Not to mention, lower stress from so much work. Wouldn't it also create more jobs because to fill a normal 1 person's 8 hours of work, you'll need 2workers now? So essentially, it doubles the work place.

Only issues I see, is that the rest of the economy, would have to cut prices in half to compensate for the lower wages. So instead of gas being $2.00 a Gal, it would have to be $1.00. Instead of paying $20,000 for a car, it now costs $10,000.

So is this possible? Basically I'm talking about an entire change in the way things are economically of course, but mainly a whole entire social change of life. It would change a lot.
NO!!!
WORK 8 HOURS
PLAY 8 HOURS
SLEEP 8 HOURSE
STAY ASLEEP!!!! CONSUME!!!OBEY!!!!!

let's say for 5 years you make x amount of money then out of nowhere your income gets slashed in half. all that money you loose will fuck you over and now you are in serious debt because of it. the average american barely makes over a liveable wage and that's it for america. your manager won't cut hours for you, he would just start the next new employees at a much lower starting pay and not give raises, then make you even more responsible for shit so you can get extra stressed out so he can fire your ass.

you got to be a dumb motherfuck to ask something so fucking stupid
basically everyone takes a loss for the sake of laziness
no offense, but you are a moron

Sure, but we have more FREETIME. Wouldn't we? Perhaps more freetime to go out and purchase shit. Less stress also.
free time doesn't buy shit, money does.

actually it would be 1,000 look back at what your saying ok heres an easy break down

per month=4,000
hours cut in half=2,000
wages cut in half=1,000

and also I am curious how old are you?
NO, I said just cut hours in half. So naturally, your wage will get cut in half also. I'm just saying that if your hours get cut in half, what you make is obviously going to get cut in half also. Get it? Not cut both, just the hours.

I'm basically trying to think of something where we work less, but still have the same buying power as we do today with our current system. Not out of laziness, but just more time to enjoy our lives.

It's really not that hard of a concept, but I'm not exactly sure how or if it will work.

The way we perceive what money is worth would have to change. Right now if I want to buy a TV for $1,000, the seller is going to expect $1,000. That's just the way the economy is. With my idea, the seller would now have to expect $500. The seller would have to simply accept the offer. Everyone in the economy as a whole would have to re-adjust their thinking of what they think stuff is worth. A standard 20oz. soda bottle is about $1.00 now, in my economy, sellers would have to re-adjust their perception of what it's worth to $0.50.

I just think that salary & prices of things are in close relation. Prices are just kept at an equilibrium so most can afford the essentials. Therefore if we are all making less (because of only 4hr shifts), everything would have to come down in price. Everyone would have to perceive shit to cost less and accept it.

I'm 22.

What everyone is trying to tell you is that if the employer is still paying for 8 hours of work how can they cut the cost of a product without cutting any other costs? You can't just cut the cost of everything in half if the cost to make it is still the same.
