whats a rough estimate to make a home studio???
You can have a good set-up for about $2500 if you already have a computer. We started out with and MPC, a good mic, a mixboard, a Triton keyboard and a few peripherals but we already had a computer. The programs you need you can get for free on the net. Does anybody master their music anymore anyway ? You'll be set.

yeah I know alot of people who just lay down some tracks in
there "home" studio or whatever but when u want to put out a hot street
single and u have some extra cash on you then it isnt bad to head to a real
recording studio and lay that shit down.. but myself, I usually just do tracks
in my own little booth...

I call my shit a home studio but aint on no weak shit. I got motif sterling mic pre amp compressor running into pro tools with a lot of plugins wit all pro wires connecting the setup. I got 2 walls studio foamed up. I finally got the studio where I wanted it a few months ago.

I guess all I need is a mpc but I can't justify it when I can sample through acid pro and put drum and synths through the motif all together easy.

And a mixing board, but pro tools has one on the screen that works fine.

What most yall setups like? If you runnen off soundblaster please save us the time!

It seems like the trend is to have your own home set-up
I know a few people who are buying up shit like crazy, mostly for bragging rights. I'm not doubting no one but some people hop the bandwagon and buy everything that looks hi-tech at Guitar Center with no knowledge or research.

As long as you gotta a decent mic, a good pre-amp, soundcard, computer, pro tools or digi performer, you're all good in the hood. The mix is what brings out the track, dont waste your time tryin to mix yourself unless you got the equipment and I dont mean a 8 track mix table and a set of studio monitors. 9 times outta ten that shit'll come out soundin wack. Spend the money on a cool lil' RECORDING STUDIO (which relly aint that much), and then spend the money to get your shit mixed proper. The mix is what it's all about.

In my experience it's crucial to have a good engineer. Ive recorded at peoples' house studios and all that but without a good engineer so much time will be wasted. Motherfuckas don't know how to copy and paste and don't have an ear for how music needs to sound a lot of the time.
That's why I pay for studio time. TC is a pro.

yeah i wish more rappers would learn this and appreciate it.....ive logged countless hours of engineering time and it takes a lot of patience for one......2 if your engineer dont know what hes doin or doesnt really care then your recording might not come out its best.....ive seen lazy engineers whove kept traccs wit extreme peaking on the vocals...when all it takes is a few adjustments to get solid takes.....then they wonder why it sounds distorted and only gets shittier when they try to mix it......another thing is file handling for some of these computer programs....the studio i engineer at uses samplitude and if you dont do certain thangs to make sure you know where your files are all goin, samplitude will place shit in wierd places you didnt tell it to save them to or wit the last project done on the comp (which can be real bad especially if the last session was a tottaly different arrtist and now you got thier files mixed up)....... then sometimes they dont load up right or they cant find a file....so i make sure at the end of a session to save the complete project and all wav files into a new folder and then zip it up and burn it on disc to ensure it doesnt get deleted or messed up somehow.....i take pride in my work and take the extra time and preperations to make sure the project is as good as possible while in my hands......im startin to despise engineering though mainly cuz i get tired of waitin on rappers who get to the booth and all a sudden foregt their words or cant say em right........patience is one of the most important attributes a good engineer needs cuz it can be very tedius work......thas why i dont even wanna mix my own shit no more cuz im already burnt out from recording and i dont wanna mix half ass by tryin to take shortcuts.....

Home studio's are only good for mixtapes and practice (unless you have put thousands of dollars into building a studio). Cats think that they can go to the Guitar Center and spend 2,000$ and a have a studio...WRONG! That is why the music out here sounds shitty. I can understand not having the money to spend on a real nice studio, but don't fool yourself into thinking what you do in YOUR home studio is like what SNOOP or 40 does in their home studio's. There mixing boards alone can range in the 100,000+ ball park. Put it like this hits are made at the house- but not recorded, mixed and mastered there.
