bro, not to salt you, but you do realize that itunes doesn't sell CDS, they sell downloads...and the same thing goes for itunes as do stores, if your not already famous you arent going to get any big retail coverage, so people wont just randomly buy your music from the front page of itunes(just liek the new release rack), they gotta sift thru a million others or have to already be a fan if they are gonna cop your shit.....the problem is not really where or in what form that music is sold, the problem and reason for drop in sales is MARKETING (either not enough, or not effective enough)
You kno yo shit...

Im definitely feeling the feedback that everyone is giving me. Im working on a special program with itunes that will highlight the independents equally as the majors. I will further update every one of you artists on siccness and let you know how I can help out with the digital itunes promotions. Thank you for taking out the time to respond to my thread!
heres an idea bro, i havent been on itunes in a hot minute so maybe this has changed, but you should tell them to have more focus on placing artists into smaller, more detailed sub genres, and attaching a few keywords to every artist, much like youtube has those "tags", so that if you wanted to find some shit you could just type in "bay area" and get everbody from that region
or "hyphy",and get all artists who choose that as a search tag, or get more specific like "lakeview" and get only artists from the view, or "rbl" and get only that or related artists, etc. i think last time i was on i just had to click on a letter and scroll thru every artist of that letter....itunes and other shit like that needs to be more receptive and efficient for people just to type in a random keyword and bring them to the artists relevant to that keyword and have pages of related artists, and artists of similar genres or who have collaborated interlink within each other on a side bar or something

No shit

Majors and Indies need to learn how to use all this new technology to start gaining more interest in their artist and be open to new ways of promoting and selling their artist products...give it time shit will balance out somewhat, this time more power to the consumer

i don't think they're goin out anytime soon at least they better not. i like cd's better than downloadin the shit for the fact that i'm not a ipod person and i just like havin the real thing in my hands. and cd's to me are just fun to collect and even tapes and records too dependin on what i'm tryna get. downloadin just takes the fun outta goin to the store to buy it or even runnin into some people who are sellin their stuff out the trunk which street releases i buy a lot of. if they by chance go out it's probably because of the younger generation that are mid to late teens because majority of them are so use to downloadin shit. my sister and her friends talk about how they like him or her's shit so much but still goes and tries to download the shit for free or either burns it. they yell somebody like keyshia cole but don't even wanna go to the store and spend 10 on it. there's just something about havin physical to look at versus something that's just in your computer. it's like what if your computer crashes which i seen happen to people before and they lost all they music. and i'm just not a fan of havin dubbed or burned shit unless it's a mix i threw together from some shit i bought. technologys a good thing but not for everything. just my opinion tho.

Cd's like records will ALWAYS be around.....however it will not be the go to media format in the future. People are always looking for ways to live a more convienent lifestyle. More and more artists are releasing "singles" just so they can get that ringtone deal. A significant portion of the recording industrys revenue has come from the sale of ringtones. These sales have altered how artists do their song writing. Soon when the "DRM" ends (Digital Rights Music), you will have the ability to buy a multiplatform device that will do it all, think iPhone but not being limited to just iTunes.

Technology has definitely made the music and movie Industry much more competitive. I feel that Independent artist are suffering more with a decline in sales due to limited funds. We have to continue to grind, put out good material to compete and use all of our resources.

Every DJ I know uses Serato now...and there's alot of DJ services that are done with mp3s thru email cause it's cheaper and faster....however I still think that vinyl will outlast CDs....There are already mp3 decks and soon you'll probably be able to download CDs straight from the deck itself...if I had told u 10 years ago in 1997 that movies will be downloadable and things like iTunes will exist I probably would have been laughed at

I will always buy CD's physically at the store. Those artists who are hot, wiil sell in stores and online. Those who have not much credibility have a better chance selling online. Or just slang em out the trunk and sell as many as you can.

records are starting to die out...ive been digging for the past 10+ years and every year i see the vinyl section get smaller and smaller. and ive been seeing alot of small vinyl shops closing down because they arent making enough profit.

as far as hip hop and rap, i havent seen too many NEW vinyl releases. ive only been seeing a small amount of singles getting pressed. and i think the only vinyl records that will be around in the future will be the same ones that exist today but in the 'Used' section

I am really disappointed in bay area artists, it seems like they are last in line when it comes to capitalizing on this digital age. As somebody said before this is all about technology. The entire recording industry is predicated on technology and how record companies found how to make money off of the newest technology. From records, 8 tracks, cassettes, cds, and mp3, that is what they have done. My theory is that the "recording" industry is dying, one day recorded music will be free. Artists have to understand that they have to get back to being performing artists. The recording industry was created when people found the technology to record live performances and sell them. Record manufacturing companies would sign performing artists to recording contracts. You know the rest. These days are just about over. Hip Hop needs to learn from Rock and Roll, epically its underground survives because its foundation is a stage show. Many larger rock groups are leaving record companies. Madonna just signed with Live Nation, leaving Warner Bros records. Get up on it.

Madonna Announces Deal With Live Nation
2007-10-18 11:30:28.157,
Story by: Michael Tedder

Confirming months of rumors, Madonna and Live Nation's President/Chief Executive Officer Michael Rapino have officially announced a global partnership agreement. The unique deal will include all aspects of Madonna's music-based ventures, including albums, touring, merchandising, fan clubs, DVD, sponsorships and television projects. This is the first time that all sides of Madonna's music career have been handled by one company.

"The paradigm in the music business has shifted and as an artist and a business woman, I have to move with that shift," said Madonna in a statement. "For the first time in my career, the way that my music can reach my fans is unlimited. I've never wanted to think in a limited way and with this new partnership, the possibilities are endless."

Madonna also said that she has one album left in her Warner Bros. Record contract, which will be released next year.
