In the event no one else is keeping tabs, Portis has now averaged a pretty pedestrian 2.6 yards per carry since his scintillating 64-yard scamper the first time he touched the ball in a Redskins uniform. This is a guy who averaged 5.5 yards in two seasons with the Denver offense.

not saying that portis is weak but ppl got to know its the system in denver that creates these backs..why do you think shanahan was so willing to get rid of him after that monster season?...he is confident that his system will produce yards on the ground regardless...after he got rid of portis he said replacing him was the least of his worries,he has plenty of backs that will fit right back into his system...i mean Gary and Anderson ran for 1000 yards with them and pretty much both of them are converted fullbacks...its only been 2 weeks but like daytonfamily said they are just going to start stacking the box more and more, and put pressure on brunell and ramsey to make plays which they havent proven they can do yet

yes the bronco system makes backs...but you can't take anything away from portis...your back still needs to hit the holes at the right time, and have the field vision, and head smart on what his job is...they can't just throw anyone back there...and it's not all about the system, they just know how to draft

let's not forget that quentin griffin was in the top 10 in hiesman voting and clinton portis went to the "U" (you think they recruit anybody?) and is the 3rd highest rusher in U's history...
