-- Connections

-- Politics

-- Talent

-- Money

-- Features

-- Time

-- Respect

-- Originality

-- And 10,000 other abstract words that have no meaning other than the one you choose to attatch to them.

You won't stand out unless the people want you to stand out, and no amount of money or effort or talent will ever be able to change that.

an overall unique sound. the artist needs to bring sumthin new to the table on their 1st album. fuck features, they need heated content on the release, and dumb promotion for it as well.

Belief in your self, timing and luck
AMEN!!

When I dropped my first one, cats in the bay thought it was aiight, but nobody really copped it out here. Outside of the bay is where I've recieved all of my support thus far. So, even though cats out here weren't really feelin me, I still believed in what I had, and it took me further than I had expected.

It's all about belief in self first and foremost, then timing and luck...CHARISMA!! Without charisma, the best rappers ain't goin anywhere!!

Whether your new or not you should be judged the same, the problem is with SOME people who have been in the game awhile fans tend to cut them slack for the half ass shit they put out due to what they REMEMBER them being like before. To me it seems that if a new-comer and a veteran made the same album they may rate it a 5 for a newcomer and a 8 for the veteran, stupid but true.

Most newcomers rush their product out, always in a hurry to drop an album rather than put out a release the correct way when it's time. Don't get it twisted there's almost no demand for anything anymore off top so now you have to promote. To me it's funny what cats WILL and WON'T invest in. Example, cats WILL break bread for hella features but then get some sorry ass beats. Why? why isn't the production as important as featuring so & so? If your shallow shit production is a FEATURE also. Also people never wanna pay properly to have their albums mixed/mastered right. You could have a solid album but if it wasn't mixed & mastered right you blew it. Also nobody wants to pay for artwork either, I've see so many covers that have random rings and chains and trucks in em for no reason it's ridiculous, again artwork is damn near a feature, why would you make a solid album and then present it in a package that looks like shit? Make it look professional.

Lastly, promote yourself...do things on your own and show people that you can indeed hold your own. Once you do get features (hopefully for the right reasons) but even if not if you can hold your own with someone respected than you'll win over some fans. Don't put out bullshit, if the project wasn't worth investing in than it's not going to sell. I understand your broke and you did your best but guess what NOBODY GIVES A SHIT, and these days if you make a bad first impression 99% of the time you will not get to make a 2nd one on that person again.

All of these things apply again only if you actually have skill/ability/charisma/talent whatever you wanna call it. Last but not least you better have drive and be able to take rejection and constructive criticisim and tell the difference between those 2. Pz
