Actually now that I think about it, 1 out of the 3 NFL players in history that have come out as being gay played for the 9ers, he was a California native, played running back for them for 8 years LOL.

The only openly gay player I've ever heard of was playing for Greenbay.
And when asked about it, former (but current player at the time) 49er RB Garrison Hearst was quoted by the local paper as saying "I wouldn't want any fag in my team" or something like that.

Of coarse, the 49er organization had to kick it's damage control into full gear since SF's gay community jumped all over them for that incident....
In fact, part of the damage control was the internal PR player orientation video that was leaked a few years ago....
