Boner knows whats up...

Sexson is still hitting around .200, Gullien is FINALLY coming around, Raul only has 6 HR's this year, and you never know WHAT kinda game youre gonna get from Beltre, and Kenji has dropped over 40 points from his average in the last month...Jose Lopez has flashed of brilliance but isnt a power hitter and Yuni is a contact hitter that is batting around .275....Vidro is OLD!

The reason Seattle is 3rd in the majors in BA is BECAUSE of the huge Ichi curve. NO ONE is hitting above .300 EXCEPT Ichiro.

I'm not a baseball fan by any means but I don't see how this was a bad move. All Seattle sports teams (besides the Seahawks the last few years) have a long history of losing their star players, especially the Mariners. A-Rod, Randy Johnson, Ken Griffy Jr., etc. Finally here is a time when the Mariners actually keep their superstar player. Ichiro is the face of the Mariners and best player. Ask an average Joe from a different part of the country who is on the Mariners. They'll name Ichiro and thats probably it.

Also, age is not a factor in baseball. Any other sport 30 is old (even thought that didn't stop the Seahawks from giving Alexander a big deal!) but in baseball fools be playing till their fucking grandpa's, mid 40's and shit. Ichiro will be playing at this level for years (unless he gets injured).

You want to complain about the $$$ these players are getting don't blame the Mariners. Blame the entire sport for not having salary caps. Now thats fucking gay

Age can be a factor in any sport...ask a catcher.

Maybe Ichi falls apart in 3 years, and then all of a sudden that contract dont look so sweet.

All im sayin is, a 33 year old gettin close to 100 million is UNHEARD of...it just dont seem right. Am i glad he is here? I guess...but more importantly, i want to WIN goddamnit.

Sexson average isnt great but he still produces runs, Raul is CLUTCH he may not be hitting them out like past years but he's still doin good. I think our postion players arnt bad at all, all tho we pay waaaay too much for Beltre and Sexson. Our lesser known players are doing very well this season on offense and deffense. As for the pitching u never know with the starters, but the bullpen is fucking great this year. I feel the M's will actually make it to the playoffs this year. Hopefully they take the west, but even if they dont they're not too far back in the wild card as of now. I guess we'll see 2 months from now.

Im just glad the Mariners are competitive this year. I enjoy watching them this year. I couldnt say that the past few years....

so it's due to him, 50% the fans come just to see him... your right the mariners don't have much to lose but a whole lot to gain...
PEOPLE NOT ONLY PAY TO SEE ICHIRO, BUT THE TEAM AS A WHOLE, BECAUSE WE HAVE A GREAT CORE OF PLAYERS. AND WE DO HAVE A LOT TO LOSE AS MUCH AS WE HAVE TO GAIN.

These big deals can make a team a contender all of a sudden but can also ruin a team in the long run. I'm a huge Dodgers fan, we're in a big market, but I hope they don't make a trade and give up some of our young kids that are starting to blossom. I think the teams with solid farm systems are the teams that will be successful in the future. Teams that come to mind Dodgers, Angels, Diamondbacks, Twins, A's, Brewers, Braves....

The All-Star outfielder's new contract extension calls for the team to defer $25 million of the $90 million he is owed, money that the team will not have to fully pay until at least 2032.

Suzuki, MVP of last week's All-Star game, gets a $5 million signing bonus and annual salaries of $17 million from 2008-12 under the terms of last Friday's deal.

Seattle will pay $12 million in salary each year and defer $5 million per season at 5.5 percent interest. Suzuki, who turns 33 in October, will receive the money in annual installments each Jan. 30 starting with the year after his retirement from the major leagues.

Because of the deferred money, the average annual value of the contract is discounted to $16.1 million under the provisions of baseball's collective bargaining agreement.

In addition, he gets a housing allowance of $32,000 next year, an increase of $1,000 from this season, and the amount will rise by $1,000 each year. He also will be provided with either a new jeep or Mercedes SUV by the team, which also gives him four first-class round trip tickets from Japan each year for his family. Provisions for the Mariners to give him a personal trainer and an interpreter were continued.

Suzuki, who would have been eligible to become a free agent after this season, began Wednesday with a .352 batting average and a major league-leading 133 hits.
