u hear a lot of people on these boards saying that mac dre fell off, or that he's weak now. I think that the people who say this, didn't like dre that much in the first place, just khayree's beats. I consider myself to be a mac dre fan, in fact he's definately one of my all-time favorites. I agree that his latest albums don't compare to his first ones as far as production, but dre is still bringing heat on the mic, and not dissapointing me. I think that the people who only like dre's earlier shit dont really like dre, cuz as a rapper he hasn't changed all that much...they just thought that they liked him because he had a musical genius behind the boards....just a thought...what do you guys think???

Im a huge dre fan too but it aint just his production that's been sub par lately. his flow is so simplistic now compared to how he use to just rip a verse. ima be a dre fan til he's done but he aint the same as he use to be.

I think once an artist has been in tha game for a minute and has a real secure fan base, they got a lot of room to fuck around and try new things! That might be what he doin! So as far as his music goes and peeps sayin he fell off, it might just be that he is doin music for his real fans now! Not tryin to grab a new breed of fans... feel me? 1one1

The problem I've had is not necessarily the lyrics (I, too, think MD can still spit some gems even when he does keep it simple) or even the music itself on IT'S NOT WHAT YOU SAY and THIZELLE WASHINGTON--it's the ENGINEERING. Some tracks sound like the bass is turned up in a more distorted way than it should be (i.e. "Take Yo Panties Off", "Stuart Littles", "Han Solo"). That can make a song less enjoyable than it would be, 'cause you're distracted by the unneeded buzz in the sound. Anyone else notice this?

Don't get me wrong--I dig both CDs in a weird sort of "high/drunk off my ass and I'm feeling good right now" way. But the poor engineering is what keeps me from recommending them the way I would recommend YOUNG BLACK BROTHA, STUPID DOO DOO DUMB, RAPPER GONE BAD and his CUTTHOAT COMMITTEE project from '01. How a record is mastered and engineered can make a difference, and that's the key here. PEACE!

Exactly what I thought. It's not particularly the lyrics, but the quality of the product as a whole. It irritates me to hear bad mixing & recording - to the point where I can't listen to the albums. That is lazy and disrespectful to the fans who buy his albums on the name brand alone... Put in some time to put together a good project.

I think that Mac Dre is still better lyrically then 95% of the Bay Area, but the production doesn't compliment his lyrics. Good beats and good lyrics are the key to success, and that's no different for remaining successful. He's still my favorite rapper and I bet that if he gets the quality production that he had from the "What's Really Going On?" days to the "Stupid Doo Doo Dumb" days, he'd be easily the best in the bay. Yes, I think he's that good.

The idea is intriguing, but it probably won't happen anytime soon. Let's put it this way: every once in a while, I read the posts on BAYRIDAZ.COM. Khayree himself occasionally posts on there. I remember reading a post there last May (2002), where someone asked Khayree if he would explain what the beef was between Mac Mall and Mac Dre. Khayree's response basically was (in so many words), "I don't want to talk about that, I've discussed that topic too many times before, blah blah blah..." So I wouldn't count on him teaming up with MD on any new tracks right now ("Do You Remember?" was a remix CD).

HOWEVER--did you pick up MAC MALL's last CD, "Mackin' Speaks Louder Than Words"? MM and MD teamed up on "Mackaframalama," which was one of the best songs on that CD, IMHO. Khayree didn't produce the track, but MM and MD sounded like they were still on the same page lyrically. Let's hope that the proposed "Fear Of A Mac Planet" CD comes out. PEACE!
