Mr. D.O.G. Interview from RAGO- Issue#5 (Summer Edition)
---------------This is a United Kingdoms Publication---------------
MR. DOG
Northwest Ridin’

Your representing the Northwest, Tacoma to be exact, how did you come into the game?

Well as you know rap started in the states and I've always been a fan since the Grand Master Flash & Kool Herc days. Always freestyled and after contacting several major and indie labels, and being declined as an artist for them, I started my own label in '96.

Has coming from the Northwest been an advantage or a disadvantage?
I think a little of both. It's been a disadvantage in the fact that there is still really no major hip-hop movement in the Northwest. What I mean by that is the radio stations, stores, and clubs aren't very supportive of what they call local music. And without the proper exposure even the best emcee has a strong possibility for failure. However, that same reason is also my advantage. In this industry, labels, promoters, and fans are always listening for a new sound.... the next big thing. And being that the NW hasn't had that exposure, it gives me a chance to be the first to break that barrier. My music has already gotten major attention throughout other regions of the U.S. and in several other countries.

You’ve got a couple of albums out and a compilation, tell the readers about the albums, what they can expect to hear? What’s your style?
My style is West Coast of course with my own twist to it. I've been compared to E-40, and Sticky Fingaz of the group Onyx with my delivery and the fact that I make up my own dialect which tends to be very catchy. I got two solo albums and a compilation. The first of the three projects is WET. This was a great album especially considering that it was my biggest learning experience. I was able to unleash what I like to call my "Underwater flow" to the nation as well as network with other groups that were making noise from various states such as 3 X Krazy (of Oakland, CA), Cool Nutz (of Portland, OR), and singing sensation, Mississippi (of Jackson, MS). On my next release, Ghetto Politics, I stepped up my game dramatically. From the beats, to the lyrics, to the guest appearances, to the graphics and paperwork this album was a big improvement. It featured big wigs like E-40, Ras Kass, and the group D.B.A. to name a few. With beats by platinum producer Bosko Kante and gold producer FunkDaddy. This album is hot!! It is the single most important factor into the expansion of my music going worldwide. On here expect to hear crisp lyrics dilating over uptempo West Coast beats as well as slow MOB beats. And on the compilation, NW Ridin', I've basically decided to spread the love and invite other acts from the NW who have been putting in the work to come shine. This album has actually been considered by best work to date. Still the West Coast sound but a variety of new talent to massage your ears.

You have your own label Bow Wow Records, who’s signed and what have you got coming out?
Well right now, the label is small. I like it that way.... easier to keep everyone focused. So far I have my artist Mac Money, and producer, Big Squeeze, signed to the label. Currently, we are finishing both their albums. Mac Money's album, Tales of a G, is scheduled to hit the streets in Mar. 2002 and Big Squeeze's, the Senator, will hit them in May of the same year. Squeeze's album is of course another compilation and features groups from California to Oregon to Washington. Both of these are a must have.

What’s next from Mr Dog?
A whole bunch. Of course, I will continue touring throughout the states. On Dec. 9th, I will do my first international show in Sydney, Australia. I'll be featured on various upcoming albums and compilations including Cool Nutz, "I Hate Cool Nutz", Eastside Records "Eastside Riderz", both Mac Money and Squeeze's albums, and several other projects. I've already started on my 3rd solo album entitled Diabolical Deeds and Street Luv which is scheduled to come out in Feb. 2003 as well as the Mr. D.O.G.& Mac Money "Top of the Food Chain" album which is scheduled for the fall of '03. And I don't want to jinx myself but I'm auditioning for several small roles in various independent films. Before we end this interview, I want to remind everyone to support this Bow Wow Record's music. Request it on your local radio stations and if for some reason, you can't find it at your local stores it is always available on the Internet on CD Baby.com, BWR2000.com, and Garageband.com.
