A FORMER American Idol contestant ridiculed by judges has been found dead outside the home of Paula Abdul, the singer who stars as a judge on the series.
Celebrity news website TMZ.com said a woman discovered in a car parked near Abdul's Los Angeles home on Tuesday had appeared on American Idol, one of the highest rated shows on US television, in 2006.
Police and Los Angeles County coroner's officers did not release information about the woman, confirming only that she was discovered yesterday and that her death was being investigated as a "possible suicide".
However, local media and celebrity news websites said the woman was believed to have had an obsession with 46-year-old Abdul.
The Entertainment Tonight show cited a spokesman for Abdul as saying the singer was "shocked and saddened" by the death, describing the woman as someone Abdul and her staff had been aware of for "several years."
TMZ.com reported that the woman's parents had told police their daughter was obsessed with Abdul and suggested they check the singer's home after reporting their daughter missing.
It is understood the dead woman had been ridiculed by judges over her poor performance in an audition.
Public humiliation has become part of the entertainment of the show and others like it, including Channel 10's Australian versionA.
bdul, who has sold more than 53 million records and scored a string of hits in the 1980s and early 1990s, is known to millions across America for her work as a judge on American Idol.
