I'm too young to remember when he was popular. I got into local stuff in the late 90s, so I obviously learned about him and went back to check his stuff out, but his sound was so outdated that I can't help but think he's wack. But that's also b/c I'm not really capable of putting him in any context other than late 90s, early 2000s.

Seems like a lot of people think he's kind of a clown, but that's more of a national rep (I remember a Chris Rock joke saying "the girl's got on bikinis, he's got on a fur coat....WHAT THE FUCK IS THE WEATHER LIKE IN SEATTLE").

I'll be curious to see what the people who are 27,28,30 years old have to say about this.

Well he did "My Hooptie" & after that came out everybody waz using that word. I remember " My Posse's On Broadway" back in the day & Everybody in Cali waz on that shit. That waz hiz firstvhit I think. "Baby Got Back" came out when I waz 14 yearz old & I couldn't stand that song & video. Tha song waz wack & the bitches in the video had NO azz. Made no sense 2 me.

Mix deserves all the props he's given and then some. Posse On Broadway, Gortex, My Hooptie, all that shit was bangin back then. Baby Got Back wasn't my track but it got my man a grammy and last time I check they really into that booty shaking music in the Southeast. (Georgia, Florida, etc.)

Mix affected alot of careers, E-Dawg, Xola aka Kid Sensation, Criminal Nation, Nasty Ness, FunkDaddy, J.D. Hill, and more. Alot of cats may have never had a chance at a real record deal up in the Dubb if it wasn't for him.

I guess it's just easier to put someone down than build them up. Respect your own if you want someone else to respect it.

I was like 8 or 9 and everybody around me was bumpin Mix-A-Lot tapes.. right up until "Baby Got Back".. then I didn't hear much about him after that.. Death Row pretty much took over the neighborhood.. I can't hate.. that muhfucka's makin' damn near millions off ringtones to that ONE song at this very moment.. I'd rather be a one-hit wonder with all my publishing than a broke chump with 40 albums worth of flops..

Yes very good question. All I know about him nowadays is that he lives in Auburn, makes ringtones a lot and loves the fuck out of the Seahawks, Sonics, Mariners & Huskies.

For a Mix-a-Lot opinion on the Northwest that's perhaps a little outdated, refer to the song "Seattle Ain't Bullshittin" from the Mack Daddy album.

Waz niggaz in the Northwest feelin the remake E-40 did of "My Posses On Broadway" called "Big Ballin' With My Homies"? I loved that song by 40 but 4 some reason or another a lot niggaz in Cali wasn't feelin it. I thought 40 did a hell of an impression of Sir Mix on that track. That waz a true classic IMO.
