In that case you probably want to make some of the lines less thick to get that staggered size look as depicted in your example.

You can make in it it's own document as RBG with a transparent background then throw it into a cmyk mode file can't you?

how come is that..why can't you do certain things in cmyk?? I used to design in straight cmyk but now i'm doing everything in RGB and just converting the full res jpeg to cmyk after and just do a lil adjustment to get the color right...is that what you guys do??
