my homie just got this sick ass dell computer, and we got my keyboard over here tryin to hook it up.. but it doesnt look like he has the same ports has mine.. I got this midi cable that connects into this 15 pin port on the back of my computer, its part of the sound card.. but his is different and it doesnt look like the sound card has that.. it looks kinda like the sound card is part of the computer.. either way it doesnt have the same port.. what do we do? is there a different cable we need? he gots a shitload of usb ports.. any help would be lovely.. thanx

^^^ YES THATS WHAT YOU NEED. COP THAT AND HOOK IT UP VIA USB. AFTER THAT OPEN YOUR MUSIC APPLICATION AND MAKE SURE THE DEVICE IS RECEIVING AND OUTPUTTING.
YOU ALSO WANT TO CHECK THIS IN THE PROPERTIES OF "MY COMPUTER " CHECK TEH DEVICES TAB AND SEE IF ITS LISTED.
YOU ALSO WANT TO CHECK CONTROL PANEL, MULTIMEDIA, MIDI (TAB). MAKE SURE TEH DEVICE IS CHECKED OR OUTPUTTED.

i want 2 make sure theyre not 2 dated 2 actually use)

IF you Record MIDI in a Sequencer on your comp, All the Notes that are played are sets of instructions that tell your synth to play the note, but the audio Comes from the Audio Out(RCA's) of the Synth. You have to take the RCA outs and Connect then to the audio Ins on your comouter in order to record Sound
MIDI data and audio output are two different types of signals, that's why they arn't carried over the same wire. What if you want to sequence on the computer but run the audio through a mixer or something?
The midi data stream carries stuff like notes, bender values, bla bla. You can record it into a sequencer and then play it back.
The audio stream carries the actual audio.
