I think the title of the album was more impressive than any song on it. Hip hop might be dead to you guys and to Nas, but there is an underground flowing of hip hop even today that is creative. it just isn't mainstream.

Nas made a lot of noise by naming his album that, but he sure as fuck didn't go back to the roots of illmatic, and he sure as fuck didn't touch any of the actual "good" hip hop groups out there with this album. If you're gonna go back to the roots of hip hop, do it well...

he said in an interview that he wasnt tryin to go back to his roots, he progresses and changes shit up and thats why he was pissed at hip hop nowadays cause most mainstream shit sounds the same. i agree with most of the shit he was sayin in the interview but i still think he shoulda named the album the resurrection of hip hop or sumthin like that, cause thats what the album is about

This thread wasn't necessarily in regards to Nas' album title or the album itself. It was referring more to the death of Hip Hop music, as we once knew it, sure you could call it evolution, but the foundation of what Hip Hop music was based on is gone. Hip Hop Is Dead, as a quote, was not meant to be taken literally.

Hip Hop is not dead...

and yes Nas is aiming his anger towards the south...

if you listen to track #6 (Who Killed It) ...he's mocking the "SOUTHERN ACCENT" ....

i mean really tho....

it's not that hard to tell...

to a certain extent the south does make some shitty music..but there's alot of dope MC's coming out of the south as well...

hip hop is not dead tho....I'm 30 years old..i grew up listening to 80's hip hop & 90's as well...

Freestyle battle sessions are still going down till this day...

breaking still going down as well...

scratch battles still going down as well....

alot of shit that's hip hop still happening..

what is Nas mad about?....

I tell you why..because certain regions of the U.S. are getting more money and shine....you decide you wanna watch music videos..most of the hip hop music videos are from artist from the south....even the bay area is getting their shine...but not as much as the south....

why can't the east coast shine again? because they have these ego's and they stuck on making too many mixtapes instead of making an actual album...

but hip hop is not dead....

and if you think it's dead...then you're a sad case...the truth..
