hinduism is a crazy fuckin religion.. some of it sounds like it was made up as they go..
but i love the story of the thuggee cult and their goddess, Kali

a black woman who wore a necklace made of baby skulls and nigga ears, with a skirt made of dead mans arms...

thugs took a month out of the year to devote to robbing and killing people (only by strangulation and only after gaining their trust). they killed at least a million innocent people, buried victims in the same mass graves for hundreds of years, followed crazy omens and ate cakes of this raw sugar as a reward for deeds done. its where we got our word "thug" from..
this british guy Sleeman destroyed their culture though.

.. some of it sounds like it was made up as they go..

In fact you may be right. Here is their Trinity:

Brahma, the creator.
Vishnu, the preserver.
Shiva, the detoyer of life.

Varuna is the Vedic god ont he heavens, thunder, and cosmic order.
Indra is a great warrior God and battles the serpent-demon Vritra, to order the promoridial chaos.

and there is one other I can not think of right now.

But Hinduism has definately changed over time. But this is the same with many other religions.

The difference between the Biblical Trinity and the Hindu Trimurti is that whereas the Father, Son and Holy Spirit are all the Supreme God (Vishnu-tattva), Brahma and Shiva are not. Brahma is jiva-tattva like us, at least most of the time. In the case of this universe, he is. In some cases when God feels there is no one qualified to hold the post of Brahma, He takes the post Himself, and in that case Brahma is Vishnu-tattva. Shiva's position is a bit more complicated. He is on a level higher than Brahma, but still lower than Vishnu. The reason being that Vishnu does not come in contact with the material modes of nature, whereas Shiva does. Or, better yet, Shiva is Vishnu after coming into contact with the material nature. In the text of the Sri Chaitanya Charitamrta, Vishnu is explained as being like milk whereas Shiva is like yogurt:

Sri Chaitanya Charitamrta
Madhya-lila
chapter 20, text 273

vanga-visesabhasa-rupe prakrti-sparsana
jiva-rupa 'bija' tate kaila samarpana

SYNONYMS

sva-anga-visesa-abhasa-rupe--in the form of a specific shadow from His personal body; prakrti-sparsana--the Lord glances over the material nature; jiva-rupa--having the form of the sparklike living entities, who are parts and parcels; bija--semina; tate--in that material nature; kaila samarpana--impregnated.

TRANSLATION

To impregnate with the seeds of living entities, the Lord Himself does not directly touch the material energy, but by His specific functional expansion, He touches the material energy, and thus the living entities, who are His parts and parcels, are impregnated into material nature.

PURPORT

According to Bhagavad-gita:

mamaivamso jiva-loke
jiva-bhutah sanatanah
manah sasthanindriyani
prakrti-sthani karsati

"The living entities in this conditioned world are My eternal, fragmental parts. Due to conditioned life, they are struggling very hard with the six senses, which include the mind." (Bg. 15.7)

The word prakrti-sparsana is explained in Chaitanya-caritamrta in reference to the way the living entities come in contact with dull matter. The glancing is performed by Maha-Vishnu: sa aiksata lokan nu srja iti (Aitareya Upanisad 1.1.1). In the conditional stage we impregnate according to the bodily conception--that is, by sexual intercourse--but the Supreme Lord does not need sexual intercourse to impregnate. The impregnation is performed simply by His glance. This is also explained in the Brahma-samhita (5.32):

angani yasya sakalendriya-vrttimanti
pasyanti panti kalayanti ciram jaganti
ananda-cinmaya-sad-ujjvala-vigrahasya
govindam adi-purusam tam aham bhajami

Govinda can impregnate simply by glancing. In other words, His eyes can work as His genitals. He does not need genitals to beget a child. Indeed, Krishna can beget any one of the living entities with any part of His body.

The word svanga-visesabhasa-rupe, the form by which the Lord begets living entities in the material world, is explained herein. He is Lord Shiva. In the Brahma-samhita it is stated that Lord Shiva, who is another form of Maha-Vishnu, is like yogurt. Yogurt is nothing but milk, yet it is not milk. Similarly, Lord Shiva is considered the father of this universe, and material nature is considered the mother. The father and mother are known as Lord Shiva and the goddess Durga. Together, Lord Shiva's genitals and the vagina of goddess Durga are worshiped as siva-linga. This is the origin of the material creation. Thus Lord Shiva's position is between the living entity and the Supreme Lord. Lord Shiva is neither the Supreme Personality of Godhead nor the living entity. He is the form through which the Supreme Lord works to beget living entities within this material world. As yogurt is prepared when milk is mixed with a culture, the form of Lord Shiva expands when the Supreme Personality of Godhead is in touch with material nature. The impregnation of material nature by the father, Lord Shiva, is wonderful because at one time innumerable living entities are conceived. Bhago jivah sa vijneyah sa canantyaya kalpate (Svetasvatara Upanisad 5.9). These living entities are very, very small.

kesagra-sata-bhagasya
satamsa-sadrsatmakah
jivah suksma-svarupo 'yam
sankhyatito hi cit-kanah

"If we divide the tip of a hair into a hundred parts and then take one of these parts and divide it again into a hundred parts, that very fine division is the size of but one of the numberless living entities. They are all cit-kana, particles of spirit, not matter."
The innumerable brahmandas, or universes, come from the pores of the Lord's body, and innumerable living entities also come from the pores of the transcendental body of the Lord. This is the process of material creation. Without the living entity, this material nature has no value. Both emanate from the pores of the transcendental body of Lord Maha-Vishnu. They are different energies. That is explained in Bhagavad-gita:

bhumir apo 'nalo vayuh
kham mano buddhir eva ca
ahankara itiyam me
bhinna prakrtir astadha

"Earth, water, fire, air, ether, mind, intelligence and false ego--all together these eight comprise My separated material energies." (Bg. 7.4) The material elements also come from the body of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, and they are also a different type of energy. Although the living entities also come from the Lord's body, they are categorized as a superior energy.

apareyam itas tv anyam
prakrtim viddhi me param
jiva-bhutam maha-baho
yayedam dharyate jagat

"Besides this inferior nature, O mighty-armed Arjuna, there is a superior energy of Mine, which consists of all living entities who are struggling with material nature and are sustaining the universe." (Bg. 7.5) The inferior energy, matter, cannot act without the superior energy. All these things are very clearly explained in the Vedas. The materialistic theory that life develops from matter is incorrect. Life and matter come from the supreme living entity; therefore, being the source of both, that supreme living entity, Krishna, is described in Vedanta-sutra as janmady asya yatah (1.1), or the original source of everything, sarva-karana-karanam. This is further explained in the following verse.

TRANSLATION

O Lord, You do not desire the creation, maintenance or annihilation of this material world, but You perform these activities for the conditioned souls by Your creative energy. Exactly as a piece of iron moves under the influence of a lodestone, inert matter moves when You glance over the total material energy.

PURPORT

Sometimes the question arises why the Supreme Lord has created this material world, which is so full of suffering for the living entities entrapped in it. The answer given herein is that the Supreme Personality of Godhead does not wish to create this material world just to inflict suffering on the living entities. The Supreme Lord creates this world only because the conditioned souls want to enjoy it.
The workings of nature are not going on automatically. It is only because the Lord glances over the material energy that it acts in wonderful ways, just as a lodestone causes a piece of iron to move here and there. Because materialistic scientists and so-called Säìkhya philosophers do not believe in God, they think that material nature is working without supervision. But that is not the fact. In Caitanya-caritämåta (Ädi 6.18–19) the creation of the material world is explained as follows:

yadyapi säìkhya mäne ‘pradhäna’——käraëa
jaòa ha-ite kabhu nahe jagat-såjana
nija-såñöi-çakti prabhu saïcäre pradhäne
éçvarera çaktye tabe haye ta’ nirmäëe

“Atheistic Säìkhya philosophers think that the total material energy causes the cosmic manifestation, but they are wrong. Dead matter has no moving power, and therefore it cannot act independently. The Lord infuses the material ingredients with His own creative potency. Then, by the power of the Lord, matter moves and interacts.” Sea waves are moved by the air, the air is created from ether, the-ether is produced by the agitation of the three modes of material nature, and the three modes of material nature interact due to the Supreme Lord’s glance over the total material energy. Therefore the background of all natural occurrences is the Supreme Personality of Godhead, as confirmed in Bhagavad-gétä (mayädhyakñeëa prakåtiù süyate sa-caräcaram [Bg. 9.10]). This is also further explained in Caitanya-caritämåta (Ädi 5.59–61):

jagat-käraëa nahe prakåti jaòa-rüpä
çakti saïcäriyä täre kåñëa kare kåpä
kåñëa-çaktye prakåti haya gauëa käraëa
agni-çaktye lauha yaiche karaye järaëa
ataeva kåñëa müla-jagat-käraëa
prakåti——käraëa yaiche ajä-gala-stana

“Because prakåti [material nature] is dull and inert, it cannot actually be the cause of the material world. Lord Kåñëa shows His mercy by infusing His energy into the dull, inert material nature. Thus prakåti, by the energy of Lord Kåñëa, becomes the secondary cause, just as iron becomes red-hot by the energy of fire. Therefore Lord Kåñëa is the original cause of the cosmic manifestation. prakåti is like the nipples on the neck of a goat, for they cannot give any milk.” Thus it is a great mistake on the part of the material scientists and philosophers to think that matter moves independently.
