the con argument would also include "what would happen if you deactivate a car at high speeds?" cuz I think that might cause bodily harm and/or property damage to people not involved in the pursuit if the car is deactivated while moving and it hits something.
I'd figure that it would be deactivated before it even reached that threat level.

Also deactivation meaning just engine cut-off; but still in control of steering and braking....something like a Lo-Jack......or like a governor of some sort.

But yea...I'd be in favor of it also if it meant lives could be saved from that type of nonsense.

Have you ever seen the show 'Bait Car' on truTV?

Essentially, the cops leave a bait car in a parking lot equipped with a remote shutdown system. The cars in the show appear to shut the engine, but allow steering control.

If the safety of innocent bystanders is your primary concern, with criminals being apprehended being a close second, installing those types of systems would be a win.

yeah, I'm totally for it....I was just playing devil's advocate

a car going 40 mph would still need considerable stopping distance if the engine is cut off. also some cars lock the steering wheel with the engine off.

I'm for it, but don't sign me up just yet! this ain't worldstarhiphop, i don't need to be first
