I have a dell laptop, not even 1 yr old. I was trying to burn a data cd yesterday and it wouldn't burn. So I put in an audio cd and it wouldn't read. And when I clicked on my computer, the cd drive showed that there was nothing in there. But when I put in a DVD it played perfectly, an ideas on wtf is wrong? I didn't buy any service from dell neither.

My sister got a dell off of ebay and the drive went bad she called dell and they replaced it. I dont think that she had a service plan since she got it from e-bay but maybe I am wrong.

^there aren't any drivers, I don't think. It's model # GCC-4241N combo drive. I few other people have the same problem but I haven't found a solution. Do you know what firmware is? THere's an update for firmware but I don't know wtf it is and not sure if it'll fix my drive. I think I have to get a new drive, fuckin gay.

Thanks Pino, I already visited that site. I downloaded the zip file and there's like 20 .exe files in there wtf? I don't know which one to pick. You think the firmware can fix the problem? I know it's worth a try but I don't think it'll fix it. Piece of shit drive, by the way it's not dell. It's LG/HP/Hitachi burner.

Since it's a Dell, just pop yer system restore disks in and see if that does the trick...I had to do that with my Vaio a couple years ago when I had the same problem
Haha that's the problem bro, it won't read any discs except for dvd's. I tried using system restore on the comp and it didn't do nathan for me.
