yep, and they had to split up the book into two because next season's just as crazy as this one.
I recommend reading the books while you wait, there's a lot more characters and plot points going on, but if you enjoy the show more stick with it by all means. Read the wedding though, it's a lot more brutal. Being in Cat's head when she goes insane after seeing Robb die is worth it and her last line is probably the most heartbreaking thing in the book.

I watched the entire first season, fell in love with the story then read the first book. Second season I more or less was reading the book simultaneously (some stories in the book would advance faster than in the show and vice versa) and I did the same thing this season however I stopped reading right before the wedding (unknowingly). I'm definitely going to read some more of the book after next episode, but not sure if I want to finish completely.

Its a million times better when u have no idea whats going to happen.. hope u read it before u knew it was gonna be a series.
depends what's happening. The Blackwater was better in the show because it was all action and confusing as fuck in the book, plus the show helps you to put faces to characters. But reading the wedding was more intense than watching the show for me.
here's Cat's final moments after Robb is stabbed by Roose for anyone that wants to read it.
Not to mention there's characters like Strong Belwas, Varamyr Sixskins and Patchface that they cut out of the show.

The books are great because of the insane amount of detail, family history, etc etc etc. It's just sometimes while watching the show and I already covered that in the books my brain would analyze shit like oh well this part was different in the book in this way etc. It's not that it ruins the show by any means, its just that the show is so good its nice to not have those thoughts in the back of my head.

ehh it's about 3/5 of the book. I'm guessing next season will finish it up and sprinkle in some parts from the 4th & 5th books which both take place at the same time but were split up because of how much shit GRRM kept writing. A couple of the characters stories (Bran) are almost finished as far as the 3rd book goes so in either the next season or the one after the lines are going to be blurred as far as what book is being used in what season.
