From SOHH:

Field Mob disses NY. Tru Life, Papoose and other rappers leading the new New York movement surely won't appreciate Field Mob's recent stab at big apple artists. Apparently fed up with talks of bringing New York back and criticism of dumbing down lyrics, Field Mob recently called out New York haters, "I be listening to CDs and **** and it be seeming like niggas be wanting to say **** the south, but they can't say **** the south, so they be like let's bring New York back," Shawn J. expressed, providing a Jim Jones-eque imitation of New York rappers. "You a gay ass nigga if you worried about how another nigga operate." The duo then clowned NY slang, mockingly complimenting each other by repeatedly using NY expressions like "you fire son," "it's crazy" and "yo b."

NY cats are just mad because they fell off, and no one is checking for them anymore...and they hate that The South has got the game in a chokehold right now, because they feel like the artform they created is being tarnished and dumbed down. I can taste their bitterness from all the way out here. Yuck.

When in reality, The South has brought Hip Hop back to its roots of just letting go of inhibitions and having fun IMO.

Why do people have the perception that people only listen to Hip Hop for lyrics ?

I love listening to a wordsmith at work but when I just wanna vibe to something and just have fun thats what I wanna do and listening to Emcee's spit a million metaphors over boom-bap doesn't do that for me. Just my .02

ya'll fuckin retards ny are hot they dont give a fuck if alot of people dislikem...they know south couldn't fuck with the east even though the south is tight too...lyrically ya can't fuck with the east... eastcoast jus tryinna have fun they already blew up anyway...only reason why south is gettin played alot is because of there beats..u see them talking about how they gotta understand in what we saying bla bla when really rap is about lyrics...lol u call franchise boyz rap? get da fuck outta here...Ti aint really daat good of a lyricist either but he's got flows and beats i like his music cuz of his music wise but he couldn't fuck wit one of the peoples from new york...juelz santana is a tight rapper even though some of his production slacked from his latest album he could have came better..

I agree with everything you said except this part. Alot of people are checking for NYC right now...especially the major labels. The undergrond scene out there is on the verge of bubbling over again. Saigon and Papoose are droping cd's this summer and so are JR Writer and Hell Rell.

I love East Coast rap music (I'm originally from NYC) but I agree 100% with everyone who says most (not all) NYC cats are close minded when it comes to rap not from NYC (or the east coast.) But to say no one is checking for NYC anymore is just plain stupid.

^^ You're right...I worded that wrong... what I meant was that they're not the center of attention in Hip Hop like they used to be...because I'm definitely waiting for that Saigon/Just Blaze project coming up.

And I agree w/ what XxtraMannish said about The Bay being just as jaded as NY in that respect. I'm all about supporting my own...but that doesn't mean that any of them get a pass for making wack music.

...if some of you cats would read that quote, you would see that they are not hating on NY, but rather responding to hate coming from NY in regards to the south "dumbing doen" lyrics...i wish they would be specific and call out the artists that actually said that shit tho, instead of generalizing it to all of NY/East Coast...i hear cats talking about the south's lyrics all the time, not just from one locale...

...but i believe they were perfectly within theyre rights to respond...

From their official website: www.fieldmob.com

"Shawn Jay and Smoke have always thought the third time would be the charm. Now they’re banking on it with the release of their 3rd CD, Light Poles and Pine Trees on Disturbing Tha Peace/Geffen Records. Featuring sure-fire hits, all-star collaborations and too-true lyrics, the group’s release illustrates why Field Mob’s Smoke (Darion Crawford) and Shawn Jay (Shawn Johnson) are credited for adding fuel to the current Southern Hip-Hop explosion. Look no further than Ludacris, Bun B, Bone Crusher, Bobby Valentino and Jazze Pha as just a few of the heavyweights cosigning for these Albany, Georgia natives. The rappers formerly known as Boondox and Kalage are back – delivering more ghetto tales and good times."
