Rumor out of Calgary is that Georges St. Pierre is more than likely out of of his UFC 63 Welterweight title shot....

An Oddessa employee out of Calgary has reported that Georges St. Pierre suffered a serious elbow injury in training and is more than likely out of his UFC 63 Welterweight Title shot against Matt Hughes. The Oddessa source said that there is a 90% chance the fight is off and even if it goes through lines have been affected dramatically due to the serious nature of the injury. Pinnaclesports.com has already taken the fight off the boards and is waiting an official announcement fron the St. Pierre training camp. Stay tuned to BettorMMMA.com for more details.

I'm not one for rumors, but for lines to shoot up like this (and for some bookies to pull it) and comming from Oddessa (highly repsected bookies) I have to believe this one. Oddessa is right the majority of the time.

Penn for replacement, please.

Ya, he looked OK in Goulletes corner but fighting is a different story.

I don't want to believe it myself, but Oddessa it pretty solid when it comes to news. About 10% of the MMA community are calling BS, but I dont know...

Hope its BS but its more than likely legit. I would love to see BJ get the shot. I was/am really looking forward to Hughes/GSP but BJ/Hughes would be just as good if not better.

Besides beating Hughes in 2004 what exactly has Penn done since then to deserve a title shot? I mean it'd be better than giving someone like Riggs a title shot but as of right now he's definetely not deserving of one.

Just like any UFC remtach or rubber rematch, they have beaten the previous champ. What did Horn do to deserve one against Chuck? Nothing. Silvia and Arlovski? Chuck and Randy. None of them really did anything, they just got the rematch becase it was a good fight and the current champ lost and should want revenge.

Riggs beat Diaz and now Von Fluke (TUF cast and Liddell's camp member). He got handled by Hughes in about 2 minutes about a year ago. He is far away from a shot.

If GSP doesn't fight, then Penn deserves it more than anyone. Karo or Sanchez would be good as well. Karo was in line before any of them.

Georges St. Pierre should know by Wednesday evening if his showdown with UFC welterweight champion Matt Hughes is still on, the Canadian's manager told Sherdog.com Saturday.

St. Pierre pulled his groin on August 3 and has been limited in training for September 23's title fight, a bout marking his second shot at Hughes' belt.

On August 10 St. Pierre's camp notified the UFC about the injury, which a physiotherapist in Montreal had initially told the powerful 170-pounder he'd need four weeks to fully recover from.

St. Pierre has since flown out to Las Vegas, where he helped corner Jonathan Goulet during Thursday's UFC Fight Night, to work with a specialist that has helped Wayne Gretzky and Tiger Woods.

Patry indicated St. Pierre is 95 percent and has continued to work on his cardio and boxing during the down period. The injury has made grappling difficult, which is problematic considering it is Hughes' strength.

The decision on St. Pierre's participation will come after "Rush" pushes himself hard Wednesday evening. Patry said he believes the fight will happen and St. Pierre will return to Montreal on Sept. 25 with the belt around his waist.

In the event that St. Pierre cannot fight, a member of the champion's camp told Sherdog.com, the UFC has started to work on back-up plans, including a rematch between Hughes and B.J. Penn.

Hope he doesnt pull out. Ive seen plenty of fighters fight with a pulled groin so Im sure GSP wont unless its a severe injury. Penn wont sign a contract with only 5 weeks to prepare.....

Damn i really want to see Hughes in both of these fights. I feel bad for GSP but thats how it goes. If Penn wins you will see a rematch with Pulver as they planed for the Ultimate Fighter season 5 finale I believe. Lot of what ifs right now.

Wow....
Well it's the fight I wanted Hughes to take anyways.
But will Penn be ready in time?

Penn's always had conditioning issues, that's why he's had such a mediocre career. I doubt that he's ready for Hughes.
So as much as I'd like to see him beat Hughes yet again, I'm going with Hughes this time....

Was he gonna drop down to lightweight to fight Jens or was he gonna fight another welterweight? I was really lookin forward to watch GSP and Matt get it on but this one will do....
