COPLAY, Pa. (AP) -- A man found a body in a pickup truck and drove it to a bank where he tried to use the dead man's ATM card, police said. The man then drove to a supermarket parking lot, where he was arrested for attempting to steal a woman's purse, said state police at Bethlehem.
Police found the truck in the parking lot after the arrest Saturday, containing the body of Maynard Samuel Anthony, 50, of Allentown.
Dennis James Laslo, 45, whose address was not known, was charged with abuse of a corpse, theft and attempted theft, and lodged in the Lehigh County Prison in lieu of $200,000 bail. It was not immediately known if he had an attorney.
An investigation revealed he had discovered Anthony dead in the vehicle in Allentown, driven to an Allentown bank to attempt to use Anthony's card to withdraw cash, and then driven to the supermarket parking lot in North Whitehall Township where he was arrested, police said.
