Exactly, you are losing a ton of accuracy when you go snub like that. In regards of the "increased impact", comon, whether I hit someone from 5 or 20 yards, they are still getting tagged and if the caliber is large enough it won't matter.
The only benefit is its easier to conceal, but that's really your last concern when you are about to shoot somebody.
It's a decent first firearm, if you have the intention to build a collection. Just keep stepping it up from there.
Rounds are expensive as hell right now and good ammo is really hard to find. I'm back ordered until September for Winchester rounds.

I agree a compact gun is useless in california since its damn near impossible to carry or get a CCW, bad choice for a first gun. You want at least a 4 in barrel, that compact ain't gonna do you no good unless its in a super close range situation.
IMO great first gun is a revolver, easy maintenance and it will never jam. The only gun i kept was my .357, it is the self defense pistol of choice next to a shotgun. If someone breaks in, if they get hit with maggie they are going down and staying down

My first gun was a Highpoint 9mm tactical rifle solid black color type assault rifle looking thing, I honestly dont remember the model name. Total piece of shit though.
I want a 44 magnum revolver. Solid Chrome with a aligator skin handle, and a polar bear skin gun case. When I get it im going hunting with it. I used to do that on Cabela's dangerous hunts video games.
There nothing like hunting Gemsbok in the open desert range with a 44 magnum pistol. It was fun from my living room. Cant wait to try it for real.
