Well your an idiot if you think an unproven rookie should be getting paid more then someone who just broke the record for most TD's in a season.
Well it's no secret how he broke that record... I mean taking nothing away from Brady because I think he's a deep qb but you're an idiot if you think the Patriots cheating had nothing to do with him breaking that record.

Do I think a rookie should be paid more than a proven vet? Yep, If a team is willing to pay that rookie more then why hate mf...

Some vets get fat contracts after proving themselves and then they tank. At least when a rookie is being paid that much he's probably more than willing to go out and prove he's worth that much. Quit hatin' on these rookies that are getting breaded!

Agent707 has his own opinion and y'all shouldn't come down on dude like that. If he thinks race plays an issue then so be it. Get off his back!

If a team is willing to pay a rookie millions then let that rook get his bread. There have been vets that failed to live up to their contracts after signing fat contract extensions. And that article has good points as well. Why discriminate against a rookie? Just because he's a rookie means he won't perform as well as some vets?

What about Adrian Peterson? He broke NFL records as a rookie and deserved every penny of the contract he signed.

Its pretty stupid and risky for a team to do that although they dont have much of a choice right now. If the Raiders were OK with giving Russell a shitload of money the whole contract situation would've been done long before it actually did. I bet in the back of Al's mind he's still pissed he had to fork out all that cash for a rookie QB...thats not his style.

@ECOSE yeah but why trip on it though. You're pretty cool about it... IFYM is acting like he's going to hurt him over it though. It's just his opinion...

@3vid3nc3... yeah I agree it's risky... but it's risky giving anyone in the NFL a fat contract, rookies and vets included. I mean look at our situation with Javon Walker.

I feel you...I'd just feel more comfortable giving a bigger contract to someone that has already proven themselves.

^ thats kinda funny considering that the top 3 draft picks this year were white

I guess goodell wants to hold the WHITE man down....... considering the majority of 1st picks were white the past 10 years..

2008 Jake Long OT Michigan Miami Dolphins - -
2007 JaMarcus Russell QB LSU Oakland Raiders 1 0
2006 Mario Williams DE N. Carolina State Houston Texans 2 0
2005 Alex Smith QB Utah San Francisco 49ers 3 0
2004 Eli Manning QB Mississippi San Diego Chargers 4 0
2003 Carson Palmer QB Southern Cal. Cincinnati Bengals 5 2
2002 David Carr QB Fresno State Houston Texans 6 0

2001 Michael Vick QB Virginia Tech Atlanta Falcons 6 3
2000 Courtney Brown DE Penn State Cleveland Browns 7 0
1999 Tim Couch QB Kentucky Cleveland Browns 6 0
1998 Peyton Manning QB Tennessee Indianapolis Colts

lol @ trynna make this a racial issue..... Ignorance at its finest
that's what Im saying. But the only reason it's like that is because

A) More often than not it's a QB getting drafted #1

and

B) More white men than black men decide to become quarterbacks.

There's plenty of black men making crazy money in the NFL

Far as Im concerned: white, black, asian, somoan, indian, if ya'll got more cash than me- you can eat a bullet if you dont give it up.

I see your point, but the fault is in capitalism, not the players OR the college. The fact that ANYONE gets paid MILLIONS OF FUCKIN DOLLARS to PLAY a sport (notice it is PLAY, not WORK), is asinine.

Teachers get paid $45,000 a year...Peyton Mannin gets paid $$$ millions.

:ermm:
Speaking of that.......are you alright with a sports agent getting $15 million of a $100 million contract just for being a fucking asshole, and not for having any actual talent? ...Didn't think so.

It's not about merit, its about profits. No star players, no attendance, no profits. Pay the fucking salaries these athletes deserve. If you dont like it, opt out of the draft. There's no rule that absolutely requires you to select the best talent available and sign them. Sign someone you know will play for the league minimum. And fuck you in your ass if you dont like it (I'm saying that to the GMs/owners, of course!)

The school can't make anybody give a shit about their own fuckin education, you idiot. People have to be responsible for their own fuckin life. People who flip burgers for a living are making millions for McDonald's so I guess they deserve $50 an hour, right?
Roughly 15 athletes generate some 80% of the income for a franchise. -- You cant find me 15 McDonalds employees--Regional Managers or otherwise--entirely responsible for tens of millions of dollars in income for McDonalds.

It is what it is. Recording artists and Movie actors and other similar jobs get paid millions. There is no motherfucking maximum contract for them. Why should a Professional Athlete be any different?

If ever there was a time to play the race card...--and I rarely do that--...its coming. Both the salary cap sports are the ones with HUGE numbers of black players, and the one without a salary cap (MLB) is majority Latino/White. This is starting to look conspiratorial, and I don't like the look of it.

I guess a free 4 year university education doesn't count for anything these days.
Inconsequential.

haaaah... cmon now you're making this to easy for me.. didn't you learn your lesson in that other thread??? "Spygate" didn't affect any games this season.. as for the rookies thing... it's fuckin stupid.. I'm not hating on the rookies.. but cmon now.. this shit is ridiculous.. every year the top rookie pick is getting more and more money just because they played well in College.. while you have veterans out here that won't even get what the rookies will get in 5 years.. NFL needs to change this asap

No, but this has nothing to DO with that, once again. Why is everyone going OFF the topic?

It's not about merit, its about profits. No star players, no attendance, no profits.
Thats great...but they ain't stars until they PROVE that on the court, period. Look, baseball and the NFL have rookie salary caps and they do just fine..why cant the NBA?

Pay the fucking salaries these athletes deserve.
They deserve to be paid million of dollars to play a sport? No.

If you don't like it, opt out of the draft. There's no rule that absolutely requires you to select the best talent available and sign them. Sign someone you know will play for the league minimum. And fuck you in your ass if you don't like it (I'm saying that to the GMs/owners, of course!)
We all know that ain't gonna happen.

Roughly 15 athletes generate some 80% of the income for a franchise. -- You cant find me 15 McDonald's employees--Regional Managers or otherwise--entirely responsible for tens of millions of dollars in income for McDonald's.
Good point, but thats not the issue here.

It is what it is. Recording artists and Movie actors and other similar jobs get paid millions. There is no motherfucking maximum contract for them. Why should a Professional Athlete be any different?
I don't think ANYONE who "entertains" deserves more than doctors, who saves LIVES, teachers, who pretty much conduct your LIFE, or scientists, who do research and figure shit out. Its stupid. You of all people should see that entertainment takes the average Americans minds of REAL issues in the world...its the reason it is THERE. People just figured out a way to put capitalism into play and make MONEY off of it.

If ever there was a time to play the race card...--and I rarely do that--...its coming. Both the salary cap sports are the ones with HUGE numbers of black players, and the one without a salary cap (MLB) is majority Latino/White. This is starting to look conspiratorial, and I don't like the look of it.
LOL @ this. How can you be a self proclaimed conservative, and believe there is a conspiracy in sports...but not in politics? That is just silly.

NBA rookies get SMALL contracts...and then get rights to BIG ones IF THEY PROVE THEIR WORTH.

And what kind of retarded shit is this? So, sports are no racist against blacks...but not Latinos?

:ermm:

No, its very relevant to what you originally said. What do college players get out of it? A college education...IF THEY SO CHOSE TO.

"I guess free recording time doesn't count for anything these days"--RANDOM PRODUCER

"NO IT DOESN'T YOU COCKSUCKER, NOW PAY ME MY MOTHERFUCKING ROYALTIES AFTER MY SHIT DONE WENT GOLD/PLATINUM!!!!!"--RANDOM ARTIST
And thats the producers fault for not getting anything out of it, much like a college athlete not taking advantage of whats put fourth to him.her.

Same shit different toilet. Why do you guys defend this scumbag Goodell and these piece of shit owners? They need to PAY LIKE THEY WEIGH. MAKE NO BONES ABOUT IT!!!
No one is defending HIM, we are defending his IDEA...completely different.

Look, LT is STILL getting paid millions, TO is STILL getting paid millions, and Chad Johnson is STILL getting paid millions. How can the NFL be "racist", when all the black players that are currently in the league are getting cashed THE FUCK OUT? The league is proposing that black players get a salary cut, so the "racist" card is DEAD, period.

What is the fuckin problem here? Do people that oppose what Goddell is saying, NOT understand the concept of "prove your worth"? Are you people that dense? I cant believe people are so fuckin DUMB. What merits this kids, that HAVE never taken a SNAP in the NFL, MORE than a guy who has been in the league for 10 years? That is the point that NO ONE has refuted yet.

Good in college does not = good in the NFL...how many goddamn times does this have to be said? DO people even WATCH football anymore?

DREW ROSENHOUS absolutely RIPPED the idea of a "prove" theory on ESPN today

he said it would also hurt the veterans contract....becasue it would reduce their leverage on negotioations...

if a good, proven veteran is negotiating a new contract he can reference a huge rookie contract for leverage in making his case for worth..

it would just simply reduce all wages...

CHRIS MORTENSEN also RIPPED the idea saying simliar things as ROSENHOUS..

it was on OUTSIDE THE LINES just rite now..

LOL what the fuck ever. You realize that "rookie" actors don't make shit either, right? The athletes may be the draw but they are not producing or selling merchandise, concessions or tearing tickets. They are not working as broadcasters or at the TV stations. They are young guys paying dues like anybody else in any other field. Nobody comes fresh out the gate in any industry I can think of making ridiculous amounts of money as an unproven commodity. And to say that the salary cap is racially motivated is laughable. Do you even know what purpose the salary cap is in place to serve? It is intended to level the playing field between small and large market teams. In baseball there is no salary cap, is it any wonder the Yankees have dominated the MLB the way they have? Or look at the most successful NBA team of the last 10 years - the San Antonio Spurs. Small market team in a salary cap sport able to be competitive BECAUSE of the salary cap. You're out of your mind to assume the NBA is racist.

Why would a vet compare his salary OR performance to that of a rookie, when he could just as easily compare it to another vet? Do you think Chad Johnson is going to compare hiself to Colston....or TO?

That argument holds no weight. And ESPN is still retarded when it comes to their own "expertise". You should have seen the article written yesterday on the situation by one of their staffers...guy had some valid points scattered, but overall, it was a bunch of hot-ass air.

thats a really shitty analogy.a 4 year university education can set you up financially for life. free studio time can set you up to be the envy of your 3 closest friends and impress some hoodrat bitch.
