Mountain View police said they have arrested two men whom they believe to be Norteño gang members in connection with a brutal beating and stabbing that happened last week.

Police arrested Jacob DeWitt, 19, of Mountain View during a car stop on the off-ramp from Highway 85 to Moffett Boulevard about 11 p.m. Wednesday. Not long afterward, police caught up with George Oseida, 21, of San Jose, who allegedly ran out of the car to Steven's Creek Trail near Whisman Park. He resisted, police said, and was injured slightly during the scuffle. A police dog had tracked him to the trail.

Oseida has an outstanding warrant for a robbery he allegedly committed from Safeway in December.

Both were arrested on charges of attempted homicide with gang enhancements.

On Jan. 6, police say the men attacked a male victim - whom police are not identifying - about 3:30 p.m. as he sat outside his apartment complex in the 600 block of Escuela Avenue. Police say the suspects punched the victim in the face and head, and also stabbed him repeatedly.

As the suspects ran away, a neighbor called 911.

Police say the victim is expected to survive, although he is still in the hospital.

Police investigators say the stabbing was gang-motivated and fingered the suspects as Norteños. The victim was able to describe the suspects and then pick DeWitt and Oseida out of a photo lineup, police said. Police also arrested Miguel Ortega, 19, for allegedly trying to hide Oseida
