could he be this year's Buke ????
CJ Watson will bring some relief for Davis. The Warriors found a gem from the NBA Development League last January in guard Kelenna Azubuike. CJ Watson hopes it happens for him this season.
Watson, a rookie combo guard averaging 26.4 points per game with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, came to the Warriors on Monday on a 10-day contract, executive vice president Chris Mullin said.
Watson replaces center DJ Mbenga, who was waived Sunday.
With point guard Baron Davis' minutes becoming an increasing concern at 39.4 minutes per game, the Warriors hope Watson can spell their star for about eight minutes a game. That was the plan for veteran Troy Hudson until he suffered a hip injury that will require season-ending surgery.
"We'll give (Watson) a look," Mullin said. "He could be a good backup for us. That's why he's coming here, to figure that out."
The 6-foot-2 Watson spent four seasons at Tennessee, leaving after a senior season in 2005-06 in which he averaged 15.3 points per game and made 42.2 percent of his three-pointers.
Azubuike, who faced Watson as a member of SEC rival Kentucky, said, "He's solid, he handles it well, and he's a good decision-maker."
Watson went to Europe last season after not getting drafted in the NBA. He didn't turn heads with teams in Italy and Greece. Then Watson returned to the United States this season and has been tearing up the D-League, raising his three-point percentage from 21.2 in Europe to 40.0 here.
