TOO BAD, OUR ROOKIE PROBABLY WON'T EVEN PLAY THIS SEASON, BUT ALL WE NEED TO DO NOW IS SOMEHOW JOB DENVER OUT OF CARMELLO ANTHONY
def dont want that to happen. melo wont sign or stay with us, and the new owners was still prepared to do that but partly to dump our salaries and rebuild fresh around curry after melo skirts off to the east.

They gonna ask for Ellis, Curry and Biedrins
we offered ellis and biedrins and said they could have any1 besides curry.

they want curry + 1st round + maybe something else.

all in all, i hope it doesnt go down. melo can score, but hes kinda overrated overall. denver had 1 of the best teams in the league but couldnt even make it to the conference finals.

maybe he will play better for a place he cares about more, unfortunately that aint us. he's a east coast kid. let him go east and let us move up in the west.

Keith Smart made a slight slip of the tongue that made for an uncomfortable moment during a speaking engagement in San Bruno on Friday. The team introduced Smart to the gathered community as an assistant coach, since the Warriors are waiting until Monday to officially announce the switch from Don Nelson. Smart was playing his part for most of his speech. But midway through his talk, he let it slip: "I was named the head coach of the Warriors." San Francisco Chronicle

This summer, Smart flew to Latvia to work out with disgruntled Warriors center Andris Biedrins. Smart emphatically pushed Biedrins through a series of two-a-day practices, but when the sensitive 7-footer practiced free throws - a source of vast embarrassment - Smart went silent. "Look, he doesn't need one more person telling him what he needs to do at the free-throw line," Smart said. "He needs someone to trust that he has been working on it, he has found a shot that works for him and he is going to make them." San Francisco Chronicle

"Keith Smart is definitely defensive-minded," point guard Stephen Curry said. "I know a lot of teams preach defense in the offseason, especially teams coming off a bad season. But (defense) will probably play a little bigger role now." Though the Warriors' lost the league's all-time winningest coach, several players said they don't expect a drop-off in production. "It's not like there's a brand new coach coming in," Williams said. "We'll still get up and down the court. We still have weapons." Contra Costa Times

Keith Smart, who confirmed during a speaking engagement in San Bruno on Friday that he is the Warriors' new head coach, believes he can trace back from where he is now to a fire that incinerated those sneakers 13 years ago in his lakeside condominium near Bloomington, Ind. "Once I saw that they were all gone, I thought, 'OK, my playing days are over,' " Smart said Thursday. "I knew I had reached a transition time in my life. "At that moment, everything changed." San Francisco Chronicle

Warriors swingman Reggie Williams woke up from his nap at 6 p.m. Thursday to a phone going off relentlessly. He logged on to Twitter and saw the news about coach Don Nelson being replaced assistant Keith Smart. He still hasn't recovered. "It's crazy to me," Williams said. "I came in under Nelson. I just don't know what to say. It hit me by surprise. I'm just so happy to be a part of (Nelson's all-time NBA wins record)." San Jose Mercury-News

All of the players contacted said they were not told of the move beforehand, but some said they could see the end of the Nellie era coming. During the offseason, the Warriors added a few defensive-minded players -- swingman Dorrell Wright, guard Charlie Bell, even rookie shot blocker Ekpe Udoh -- which signaled a change from Nelson's offense-heavy philosophy. "Keith Smart is definitely defensive-minded," point guard Stephen Curry said. "I know a lot of teams preach defense in the offseason, especially teams coming off a bad season. But (defense) will probably play a little bigger role now." San Jose Mercury-News

Don Nelson's agent said the long-time coach is doing just fine, and if all things go well, Nellie will be enjoying the Maui sunset Saturday evening. "Don couldn't be more pleased," said John O'Connor, Nelson's long-time agent and confidant. "He has nothing but good things to say about (potential incoming owner) Joe (Lacob) and (outgoing owner) Chris (Cohan). The process was handled very well." CSNBayArea.com

Did it say anywhere if Smart was signing a contract for any specific amount of time? I cant imagine him being more than a bandaid.
he already has a multi-year deal. if his interim doesnt go well enough to land it full time, he will go back to an assistant.

at this point, im prepared for whatever.

if we get him, he could sign with us but if he doesnt, it clears up our salary to build around curry as they like.

Actually if Melo signed a new contract that would be the one player i would trade Curry for cuz guards come a dime a dozen, Im we would have to give up something else too. Theres not to many good players in the league with that type of size but i would think trading Monta would make more sense

well said except melo doesnt want to be here. and top 5 point guards do not come a dime a dozen.

monta is 1 thing, but curry is much different.

i think our package for melo could be the best offer even without curry. but if he wont sign the extension then i would only do it to clear space and build fresh. i understand how the new owners might want to do that.

but after this year, they will see our team differently than before and realize that our roster isnt as bad as nelson coached it to be.

as long as our key guys can stay healthy, we have potential to be a playoff team.

when nellie had a good roster, he coached us to the playoffs and then a 50 win season, hard to do that when you have a record amount of d leaguers on your team, cant make chicken soup out of chicken shit...
