jlmacn, i have said the same thing...
it would make sense to me to consider someone who believes that all they have is their self and others and not some "greater" thing to go to...
that would mean that if you are a good person, then you have those intentions of being a good person and having good morals all by yourself, and that does take a lot of strength and confidence with your own self...
but when you fall back on an already made belief, and moral standards that reward you out of doing those things(by going to heaven) then whats the real point of doing those things, because you care about others cause god wants you to care, or you care about others because you feel like complete shit if you don't...
i have never went to church, or any organized religion gathering, never believed in a "god" or complete ruler, i just can't conceptualize it...
i have never said hurtful things towards someone, and i am planning ot become a teacher in order to help those that have low self-esteem in mathematics and raise their self-confidence in order to be a better person..
i did my senior project on darfur, and had a donation program set up for it.....
i volunteer my time in helping others with math, i tutor friends and people in class for free, and i love doing it...i feel wonderful helping others and making them feel better about themselves..

actually, i wouldnt call people stupid for doing 2 + 2 differently than me and getting a different answer, being that 2 is a symbol that represents having a group of items. if someone else had a different symbol to represent this, their equation might look different, and if their symbol for 4 was different, theyd have a different answer, heres an example. mm + mm = mmmm < this is different, with a different answer than 4, am i wrong? is this equation incorrect? no, it isnt. it all has to do with perception.

Saying you do'nt need god leaves room for people to say you are wrong or don't understand or whatever.
You could say, there isn't a god. or something that would more accurately portray your beliefs...unless that's the extent of what you believe...
either way, if you wait around for miracles shit ain't gonna happen...but if you read the bible, you'd know it doesn't really say some foo-foo bullshit like that. everyone thinks it's a bunch of fairy tales, which it may be, but you could learn a thing or two about principle by reading it, or portions of it.
nobody ever said you'll get anything and everything you want...and if someone told you that, they LIED to you...whether there is or isn't a god doesn't matter, cause either way you gotta live your life and do what you do...some people just have something that holds them to a certain way of living while others are more free spirited...
